Mediocre bottle. Dark ruby colour. Not showing much, bit tight.
Red
1996 Château Léoville Barton France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

One of my favorite 1996 Left bankers. Classic nose with herbs, some menure/ leather, graphite, 'stone' and cherries. Powerful tannins in the mouth, cherries and berries. Elegant wine. Developing slowly over the last five years when I regularly had a bottle, still getting better and not at its peak yet.
Red
1996 Château Sociando-Mallet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
93 points
Great bottle! dark coloured. Some green Cabernet tones, minerals and nice red fruits in the nose. Comes over as a classic Pauillac of a much higher level. Elegant and powerful on the palate, nice integrated tannins. Bit drying in the finish. Another great vintage for Sociando Mallet.
Red
1996 Château Angélus France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
91 points
Fairly closed nose, not much to discover. Soft, thick and powerful on the palate, many tannins there for a 16-year old wine. Not my favorite Angelus. Maybe it needs more time?
Red
1996 Château Clerc Milon France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
88 points
Minerals, cherry and olive tones in the nose. Nice classic style, well concentrated and balanced on the palate. At its peak, won't develop much anymore.
