Introduction

What a great event, you really come away with a new appreciation for older napa cabs. The consistency and sense of place really comes out when smelling and tasting these wines.

Flight 1 (6 notes)

'66 BV

'78 BV

Red
1966 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points
Light ruby colored core, bricking.

Very pronounce nose of sweet carmel, sherry reduction, slightly oxidize along with nutty, forest floor with floral qualities. Slight tannins still on the palate along with some sour cherry on the back end. Nice acidity.

With a hour plus in the glass and this is still rocking, wow what a bottle. Keeps opening up and adding more nuances.

SS 93pts.
Red
1978 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points
Ruby in color bricking towards the edges just slightly. Very perfumed notes of floral, animal/gamy, old leather along with sweet red fruit, dust, minty and some oak still detectable on the nose. Mushroom, leather, plum, forest floor, toasty Carmel. Still has tannins and nice acidity on the palate.

I liked this bottle just as much as the '66.

SS 93 pts.
Red
1984 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley
92 points
Slightly darker core than the '78.
Tight nose of oak, tobacco, cassis, plum, mint, coffee and dust. Nice chewy tannins still, great lenght, Really nice fruit. Really like this.

SS 92pts.
Red
1987 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley
92 points
Deeper in color than the '84, very slightly bricking. Deep solid ruby color. Minty, dusty, mushroom/forest floor scents. Along with deep nose of plums intermixed with spice and oak. After an hour and a half, got a distinct cheesy note. Nice fruit, tannins present but smooth and round. Mouth coating. Mushrooms/earth mint, slight oak, Plums and chocolate on the backend.

SS 92pts.
Red
1990 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley
90 points
Deep ruby core again bricking very slightly. Dusty cherry, mint, chocolate and earth, hint of oak coming through. Smooth dusty tannins, more advanced then the '87 at this point. Mint, eucalyptus, forest floor with cherries and chocolate.

SS 90pts.
Red
2008 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley
91 points
Dark purple almost a black core. Big minty notes fly out of the glass with chocolate, baking spice and vanilla galore. The dark berries are a little hidden under all the debauchery. Big tannins, but smooth and round, silky. Big bold dark berries, vanilla, mint and forest floor notes. This is just a baby at the moment.

91+pts.
