White - Sparkling
1998 Pol Roger Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill France, Champagne
Showing quite like the last time I had it a copule years ago. A very nice bottle of Champagne and drinking great.
White
2004 Château de la Maltroye Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos du Château de la Maltroye France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Popped and poured. Ripe yellow fruit and showing some wood spice. A slight touch of oxidation, which added a nice element of complexity. Good richness of fruit on the palate with good spice and a bit of minerality. A bit shorter finish than I would have liked. If I had any in the cellar I'd be drinking them over the next year or so.
White
2009 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Juicy lemon and white orchard fruit aromatics and flavors with crushed stones and white floral. Very clean. Nice acidity for the vintage. Medium finish. A very tasty wine.
Red
2007 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
Opened about 60 minutes before drinking. A surprisingly ripe aromatic profile of sappy red berries. High pitched floral too with crushed rocks. Sappy, spicy, ripe red fruit on the palate too. Firm structure buried underneath. Medium bodied with a long finish.
Red
1998 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
Opened about 60 minutes before drinking. Started off a little tight and not giving much on the nose. After being open roughly 2 hours it really started singing. A great mix of dark red berries, brown spice and floral on the nose and palate. Great depth. Somewhat firm mineral backbone with really great acidity. Medium bodied with a long finish. This is really drinking great now, but still has enough structure to allow for further aging.
Red
1998 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Opened roughly 60 hours before sherving. Amazing aromatics right from the start. Red and black cherry and berry with incredible asian spice. Crushed rocks, earth and darker floral tones as well. Powerful fruit and spice on the palate with a firm mineral backbone. Great texture on the palate with a long finish. Simply delicious and the wine of the night. Might be the best bottle I've tasted yet of this wine.
Red
1998 Claude Dugat Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Popped and poured. The aromatics were dominated by dark red cherry and berry and damp earth. Some meaty spice too. The same dark fruit, earth, and spice on the palate as well. Medium body and finish. Tannins were pretty well integrated. Showing very well and I would probably elect to drink these over the next year or two.
Red
2009 Domaine du Clos de Tart Clos de Tart France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru
Opened and decanted about 2 before trying. A huge, powerful nose of black cherry and plum with dark floral too. There is some crushed stone buried under all that fruit too. The palate was also incredibly ripe with a firm, mineral backbone. Some earth flavors on the palate too. Medium plus bodied with a long powerful finish. Incredibly young, but fun to try.
Red
1998 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Champans France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Popped and poured. Red cherry and earth dominated aromatics with some pretty spice and floral in the background. Much of the same found on the palate as well. Lighter in body and structure with completely integrated tannins. I would have liked to see a bit longer finish. A good wine, though it certainly suffered being served after a number of other great wines tonight.

Closing

A great evening of food and wine with great friends.
