Flight 1 (4 notes)

Red
1962 Château Mouton Rothschild France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
92 points
First shortly after opening over-ripe dried cherries, cedar, tobacco, chocolate and some mint in the nose and high acidity plus (un-natural) sweet tones on the palate. But several hours later this had all developed into an intoxicating bouquet of thick overripe fruits, leather and cedar. The palate gained more structure and body with glycerine, fat, ripe fruits, mineral, graphite and iron tones and an 'old school' Bordeaux finish. Better drink soon.
Red
1962 Château Lafite Rothschild France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
90 points
Quite sweet with chocolate, over-ripe fruits and some leather tones in the nose. Quite different from the Mouton, more thickness and filling on the palate. Well balanced, Earth, stone and coconut, but missing delineation.
Red
1962 Château Magdelaine France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
93 points
Impressive bottle. Attractive and complex nose with dark ripe fruits, earth, cedar and some sweetness. Full bodied, red fruits, strawberry jam, vanilla, truffle and touch of meat tones on the palate.

Little black berries, concentrated fruits, mineral and some orange in the nose. Some noted an asparagus tone. Medium bodied, earth, truffle and tar on the palate, relatively high acidity. Interesting bottle.
