Great to meet dontime and always good to see pdhall. In brief, it did not suck.

Flight 1 (5 notes)

2009 DeSante Sauvignon Blanc Old Vines USA, California, Napa Valley
90 points
Aromas of citrus, flint, fresh cut hay and a bit of earth. On the palate, very crisp and mineral driven with citrus, chives, slate. Finishes with good acidity.
1994 Shafer Merlot USA, California, Napa Valley
92 points
Popped and poured. This is in its prime, deep rich nose of mocha, plums, tobacco, herbs. On the palate rich and full with black cherry, plum, dark chocolate, earth, leather, tobacco. Long finish with great grip. WOTN by a whisker over some pretty stiff competition.
1996 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon Bella Oaks USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
92 points
Popped and poured. Drinking very well right now. Nose of rich dark berries, mint, leather, tobacco, earth. On the palate, berries, sour cherry, mint, tobacco, leather, spice. Finishes with nice grip. This is in a really good place right now and should hold there for a few years.
1999 Elio Grasso Barolo Riserva Rüncot Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
92 points
Wonderful nose of sour cherry, asphalt, rose petals, leather, and rich dark fuit. On the palate, rich, full, yet completely weightless with sour cherry, dark fruits, earth, leather, and tar. Finishes with substantial grip and balance. This was helped by food.
2000 Château Langoa Barton France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
91 points
Nice nose, tobacco, pencil shavings, red currant, plum, blackberry, cassis. On the palate, rich red fruit, tobacco, plum, berries. Finishes a little soft. I am wondering if there was some bad storage in the life of these. I will be drinking the rest of mine over the next two years.
