Introduction

Rockford is an amazing place, very hands-off traditional winemaking. This was a truly memorable experience, seeing these old vines, seeing the winemaking machines (most older than 100 years) and tasting the wines. Thanks!!

Flight 1 (13 notes)

Rosé
2012 Rockford Alicante Bouchet Rosé Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
80 points
Quite light, even for a rosé, strawberries, refreshing but not my style of wine
White
2012 Rockford White Frontignac Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
83 points
Some residual sugar, floral you can see the similarity to muscat. rather simple wine but good. True Auzzie summer wine
White
2010 Rockford Riesling Vine Vale Barossa Valley Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
87 points
Light, very floral not dissimilar to the German dry style but less minerals, which is clear when you look at the soil in Barossa. Nice
White
2010 Rockford Riesling Hand Picked Eden Valley Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley
89 points
Classic riesling, more fruit forward than the eden valley, given that it is from a hotter climate
White
2008 Rockford Sémillon Local Growers Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
91 points
Oak, vanilla, nice balance and long finish. This really reminds me of a young Fieuzal blanc, so I will give this quite some aging potential.
Red
2010 Rockford Frugal Farmer Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
80 points
I'm torn, I love the winery, but this wine is just a style, that I don't approve, Syrah is not made to be made into such a light wine. Too fruit heavy, little else. While well made it's too expensive for what it is.
Red
2008 Rockford Moppa Springs Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
88 points
Classic grenache, a bit fruit driven with limited minerals, which I think is needed in a Grenache to give it the elegance and structure it needs. OK wine, but not on par with the Shiraz made in this house.
Red
2009 Rockford Rod & Spur Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
88 points
A little bit of cow manure, ratatouille, slightly on the light side, but interesting, but not on my must buy list
Red
2010 Rockford Shiraz Basket Press Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
95 points
AMAZING, what a wine!! Chocolate, big, bold, massive fruit, very very long finish and great balance still. Needs time but will be awesome also with some more time in the bottle!

Red
2004 Rockford Shiraz SVS Hoffmann Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
93 points
I was surprised that this got it's butt kicked by the basket press... but nevertheless it is a great wine. Coke-hard-candy (the grange signature) very dense and massive, needs a lot of time...

The Hoffman is one of my all time favorite Auzzie wines and for sure one of the greatest values!

2004 Rockford Shiraz SVS Flaxman Valley Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

As with the Hoffman, I was surprised that this got it's butt kicked by the basket press... but nevertheless it is a great wine, but very different to the Hoffman.
Round with loads of caramel and cherry, ready to be drunk now

2004 Rockford Shiraz VP Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

Very much like a port, actually, it would be hard for me to put this to Oz. Nice
