Flight 1 - Appetizers (1 note)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Jose Dhondt Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne

Consistent with previous notes. Excellent.

Flight 2 - Scallop carpaccio, citrus soy vinaigrette, tempura escargot (2 notes)

White
2005 Domaine Guillemot-Michel Mâcon-Villages Quintaine France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Villages
88 points
Rich and slightly oxidized nose of lemon, ripe apple, pear and hints of caramel. Based on the nose, this was borderline slightly prematurely oxidized, but the palate was much fresher as showed as I would expect it to. In the mouth it’s rich, viscous and almost heavy, but manages to stay fresh enough with its abundant acidity to not be considered excessively weighty. Very good.
White
2005 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine Clos du Four France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine
89 points
This was much shyer on the nose but after some coaxing this offered a fresh and light nose of citrus and floral notes. Great minerality and citrus on the palate with a more delicate and focused profile than the Guillemot-Michel. Excellent acidity here as well. Not as open as the Guillemot-Michel and I think with a few more years in the cellar this will open up and be an excellent wine. Very good. 89+

Flight 3 - Pan fried oysters wrapped in smoked ham, hazelnut crumble, parsley beurre blanc (2 notes)

White
2004 Albert Grivault Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
flawed
Oxidized. Completely shot. Too bad as I’ve had this wine in the past and it’s excellent.
White
2004 Bruno Colin Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Truffière France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
My first pour was completely oxidized but I managed to find a good (non-oxidized) bottle of this and poured myself a small taste. Wow, what a difference. Fresh, citrus, floral and gravelly goodness jump from the glass. On the palate, focused yet generous with great acidity. Excellent.

Flight 4 - Pheasant ballotine, morel sauce (3 notes)

Red
2002 Olivier Leflaive Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru
89 points
Nice floral nose with red cherries and spice. Sappy red fruits on the palate with a tart cranberry finish, excellent acidity and sandy tannins. There are also hints of earth on the nose and minerality on the palate. Drinking well now. Very good.
Red
2002 Domaine Annick Parent Monthélie 1er Cru Les Duresses France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Monthélie 1er Cru
85 points
Nose here had hints of green/stem notes that were a little off-putting but underneath there was nice red fruit and floral tones. On the palate this was a little lean with but enjoyable flavours of tart cranberries and cherries. Good structure but could use more intensity on the palate. My least favorite wine of this flight. Good.
Red
2002 Méo-Camuzet Frère et Sœurs Fixin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Fixin
90 points
Darkest and ripest nose so far with beautiful notes of manure (yes, I said beautiful), dark cherries and raspberries and little bit of barnyard funk as well. In the mouth there’s plenty of depth and structure with sappy red fruits, excellent acidity and fine yet approachable tannins. Well balanced. I really liked this. Drinking well right now and will cruise for several years further. Excellent.

Flight 5 - Beef cheek ravioli “Bourguignon” (1 note)

Red
2000 Hospices de Nuits Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges Cuvée des Sires de Vergy France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
90 points
Nose here was excellent and was quite pronounced showing notes of ripe red fruits, spice, leather and a hint of iron. Darker fruits on the palate with powdery yet firm thanks, solid acidity and a weightier mouthfeel than the previous three reds. Longer finish. This has most depth of any of the reds so far but also is the most youthful, although the nose showing some development while the fruit and structure on the palate is clearly on the young side. Needs 3-5 years. Excellent. 90+

Flight 6 - Brioche "Pain Perdu" filled with Nuit St. Georges fromage and spiced cherries (1 note)

Red
2000 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Clos du Roi France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
89 points
Dark cranberry, cherry and iron infused nose with gamey and funky aromas adding nice complexity. Most structured wine of the night with firm and drying tannins with good acidity to match. This is a firm and masculine wine with not a lot of elegance showing at this point. On the palate this was fairly closed and was more about iron and gamey notes than fruit, but I think this needs 5+ years before it will show it's stuff. Lots of potential. Very good. 89+

Flight 7 - Post dinner wine (1 note)

Red
1998 Bernard Levet Côte-Rôtie La Chavaroche / La Péroline France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
92 points
Meaty, gravelly and somewhat rustic with delicate flavours of red fruits, tobacco and black olives. Nose is really great with olive tapenade, meat, leather and crushed rocks with cassis and dark red fruits. Rustic and grainy tannins but overall this wine shows some old school Cote Rotie elegance. This was my favorite wine of the night. Drink or hold. Excellent.
