Introduction

We were really impressed with the wines across the board. The Mate and Dolchetto were fun, inexpensive and easy to drink wines. The Langhe and Barbera present good value for drinking now and over the next few years. The Barbarescos were impressive and will drink well for many, many years.

We ordered from the menu and had the wines with a mushroom, arugula and goat cheese tart, Veal and Porcini Raviolis, and Spinach and some cheese I have forgotten ravioli. The food was excellent. This was a nice tasting.

Flight 1 (1 note)

Red
2012 Sottimano Maté Italy, Piedmont, Vino da Tavola
My first dry bracheto. Smells really nice. Light berries, strawberries, raspberries, juicy, light, fresh and fruity. Fun, pretty wine.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

Red
2011 Sottimano Dolcetto d'Alba Bric del Salto Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba
Easy drinking, some spice, good acid, black fruits. Light bodied. Nice pizza wine.
Red
2010 Sottimano Barbera d'Alba Superiore Pairolero Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba Superiore
This one is made all in barrique and grown in limestone. Rich aromatics, blueberry and mineral notes. Ripe and sexy.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
2010 Sottimano Langhe Nebbiolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
Red fruits, spice, tart, dry, coarser tannins and not as polished as the Fausoni. Good QPR.
Red
2010 Sottimano Barbaresco Fausoni Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
This vineyard is more sandy soils. Similar aromatics as the Langhe, but more intense. Red fruits, dry, fine tannins, rose petal, faint red licorice.

Red
2010 Sottimano Barbaresco Pajoré Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
This was grown all in limestone. The nose is more muted. The wine is a little deeper, richer than the the Cotta. Ripe fruits, rose, faint tar, dry, very structured. Really nice.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Red
2009 Sottimano Barbaresco Currá Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
This bottling is always released a year later than the others. Structured, fine tannins, darker fruits than the previous wines, tar, rich, a little earth. Very good.
Red
2008 Sottimano Barbaresco Riserva Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
A blend of the oldest vines in the Pajore and Cotta vineyards. Oh yeah! Smells great. Very deep, rich, dark fruits, tar, great structure. Intense and powerful yet still refined and elegant. Excellent.
