Tour - Burgundy 2013

Burgundy, France

Tasted May 14, 2013 - May 20, 2013 by Wine Gent with 1,004 views

Introduction

6 days self guided tasting tour of about 50 different red burgundy (Pinot Noir) and white burgundy (Chardonnay) wines. Visited large cellars / wineries and several small cellars / wineries the public does not normally have access to. Learned about the appellation structure and unique nuances of vineyard ownership and wine producers / production in Burgundy.

Observations - Burgundy is very different from Napa / Sonoma in many ways other than just terroir - there are major differences in access to wineries and producers for tasting, appellations and ownership, level of commercialization, production, marketing, and general atmosphere. It takes more research and effort to do serious wine tasting in Burgundy.

New foods tasted - rabbit rillette, escargot, white asparagus soup, beef cheek, various local Burgundian cheeses.
