Introduction

Chris shared some of his favourites from his cellar prior to his departure from Paris. Fun event, and a really interesting selection of wines to try - took me out of my usual comfort zone. Guests included:

Chris Davies
Andrew de Csillery
Roger Hoeberichts
Scott Osborne
Cieran Quinn

Flight 1 (7 notes)

White
2005 Domaine André Bonhomme Viré-Clessé Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Viré-Clessé
87 points
Clear, green-yellow, watery rim. Clean nose, butter, honey, apples. Full palate, wood quite evident, makes it a but chewy. Longish finish.
White
2004 Fery-Meunier Puligny-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
flawed
Clear, darkish yellow. Somewhat funky nose, a but dirty, almost oily, lacks freshness. No fruit at all on the palate. Unfortunately this is well past it's best.
Red
2000 Château Poumey France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
88 points
Clear, dark ruby red, bricking to the edge. Clean nose, prunes, cedar, liquorice, a little green. Medium palate, quite linear, tannins still quite chunky but quite fine. Medium finish. No hurry to drink.
Red
2000 Château Prieuré-Lichine France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
89 points
Clear, dark purple-red, only slightly fading at the edge. Clean nose, dark fruits, cedar, quite ripe. Medium palate, ripe fruits, fine tannins, well integrated but still present. Medium finish. No hurry to drink
Red
2006 Domaine le Sang des Cailloux Vacqueyras Cuvée Azalais France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Vacqueyras
85 points
Clear, purple, slightly fading at the edge. Clean nose, citrus fruits (bizarrely), something else I can't place. Full palate, lots of tannin. Short-medium finish.
Red
2000 Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Impériale France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
90 points
Clear, ruby red, brick red to the edge. Clean nose, red fruit, very complex. Medium palate, tannins beautifully integrated, very smooth, fruits still nicely evident. Medium+ finish. Drinking beautifully.
Red
1998 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Château d'Ampuis France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
93 points
Cear, medium ruby red, evident brick red to the edge. Clean nose, dark fruits, liquorice, spices, pepper, vanilla. Full palate, very complex. Long finish. Fully mature. Excellent wine - easily my favourite of the evening.
