Introduction

Got a last minute invite to fill in for a last minute cancelation, and we thanked our good fortune (and Sumeet for thinking of calling us).

Flight 1 (2 notes)

Red
1981 Château Talbot France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
88 points
From Double magnum (served alongside the '82 Mouton). Very pretty mature BDX nose, and still holding up beautifully (probably thanks to the large format). But this one lacked the depth and complexity of it's flight partner. Pleasantly suprised and would love to enjoy again.
Red
1982 Château Mouton Rothschild France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
94 points
After talking to the other tables, there was clearly a lot of bottle variation with this wine. Fortuantely, we had a great bottle. Started off a little closed in the glass, but quickly added weight over the next hour or so. (believe the bottle was double decanted 4 hours beforehand). This is certainly a magnificant wine (that said, it's certainly not nearly worth the parker inflated price tag it carries).

Flight 2 (3 notes)

Red
1989 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
90 points
From a 6L, really spectacular nose (best of of the night), but the palate failed to carry anywhere near the same depth or complexity. Very drying finish.
Red
1989 Château Montrose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
93 points
Of the 1989 super 2nds, this wine really paired best with the venison. A little too much acidity on it's own, but really caming into harmony with the meal.
Red
1989 Château Léoville Las Cases France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
94 points
Favorite wine of the flight. Didn't do as well as with the food, but really well balanced wine with some tobacco, mushrooms, drak fruit and hint of mint on the nose.

Flight 3 (1 note)

Red
1990 Château La Mission Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

WOTN. This baby has it all. Bravo. (The brie tart with whole truffle shavings were a perfect pairing as well)
