Introduction

Some great wines at the annual holiday party.

Flight 1 (7 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. H. Billiot Fils Champagne Grand Cru Brut Réserve France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
92 points
I believe this is a blanc de noirs. Bold, fresh, moderate intensity nose (surprisingly little yeast); palate is fresh, full bodied, great acidity; med to long finish. This is an excellent champagne with a lot of balance, superb for the price! 91-92
White - Sparkling
2006 Mumm Napa DVX USA, California, Napa Valley
89 points
Lots of bubbles, slight yeast on nose, fresh, citrusy palate, lovely clean finish. Would have expected much more for the price... many better options for champagne in the $50+ price range, but certainly still enjoyable. 88-89
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Mumm Napa Brut Réserve Rosé USA, California, Napa Valley
86 points
Fresh and nice, unremarkable, nothing special. Short finish. 85-86
White
2011 Domaine Hippolyte Reverdy Sancerre France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
89 points
Fresh nose, mineral, white fruit, peach; a little thin on the palate but still clean, fresh, interesting, and has enough fruits. A great wine for the price, and a great everyday drinker. 89

White - Sparkling
N.V. Launois Pere et Fils Champagne Grand Cru Veuve Clemence Brut Blanc de Blancs France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
91 points
Great balanced nose with yeast, fresh fruit, bready, toast; palate is intense, great lime, minerality, but still full body. Finish is short. Lovely wine. 91-92
Red
2007 Lynmar Estate Syrah Sonoma County USA, California, Sonoma County
90 points
Dark purple color; nose is intriguing with some mint, red spicy fruit; palate is medium body, slightly thinner, not quite as much stuffing; finish is short. The nose is so good, too bad the palate is a little flat. Still an enjoyable wine, but I thought it was headed towards greatness after smelling the nose. 89-90
Red
2008 Lynmar Estate Pinot Noir Quail Hill Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
90 points
A bit disjointed. Red fruit, spicy, but slightly bitter. Seems like this has all the components, but it doesn't knit together well into a coherent story. Wait a bit longer? 89-90
