Flight 1 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
2001 Freycinet Vineyard Radenti Australia, Tasmania, Freycinet Coast
91 points
Pear, musk and some cherry with graphite and leesy complexity. Nice richness on the palate, with good acidity lending freshness. Overall it feels really well balanced. Drink now and over the shorter term I think.

Flight 2 (12 notes)

White
2011 Benoit Badoz Chardonnay Côtes du Jura France, Jura, Côtes du Jura
84 points
Floral, orange peel and sea spray with some herbal notes too. Length fades very quickly, the fruit doesn't follow through at all.
White
2009 Michel Gahier Chardonnay Arbois Les Crêts France, Jura, Arbois
88 points
Orange rind, spice and a stemmy note. Good acidity and mouthfeel - rounded out a little but has some spice that gives it a bit of interest. I liked it.
White
2011 Daniel Dugois Arbois Auréoline France, Jura, Arbois
flawed
Earthy and funky with some floral notes. Nice fruit intensity and good texture. Medium length. Feels a little flabby and there is some suspicion that the wines from this producer from this case have seen some heat which is a shame as there is some quality evident.
White
2012 Daniel Dugois Chardonnay Arbois France, Jura, Arbois
flawed
Peach, ginger, apple and caramel. Caramel element stands out on the palate a bit and it's a touch short too. As with other Dugois wines at this tasting, there is a suspicion that the bottles aren't quite right.
White
2010 Philippe Bornard Chardonnay Côtes du Jura Les Gaudrettes France, Jura, Côtes du Jura
91 points
Musky perfume, some earthy funk, sea spray, white florals and pear. Lovely restraint to the fruit, there is good acidity to compliment and very good length. The more I taste it, the more I like it!
White
2011 Daniel Dugois Arbois Aigrefeu France, Jura, Arbois
flawed
Heading very quickly towards oxidised territory.
White
2011 Benoit Badoz Côtes du Jura Arrogance France, Jura, Côtes du Jura
88 points
Mealy, apple with plenty of smoky oak and some stone fruit. There is a good saline core on the palate, with the oak fairly prominent but it isn't too much for me. Not a long term wine in my opinion but good now.
White
2010 Domaine de L'Octavin Arbois Pamina La Mailloche France, Jura, Arbois
85 points
Cloudy coloured. Lead pencil with a touch of smoke and some rubber too. Palate has some spritz to it on pouring, it is pretty simple overall.
White
2008 Benoit Badoz Côtes du Jura Cuvée Victoria France, Jura, Côtes du Jura
77 points
Lacks character on the nose, there is a little grapefruit only. Palate is all over the place and disjointed. Unpleasant and flat.
White
2009 Benoit Badoz Côtes du Jura Tradition Blanc France, Jura, Côtes du Jura
flawed
Sherry with onion and old musty oak. Seems stale.
White
2009 Daniel Dugois Savagnin Arbois France, Jura, Arbois
flawed
Probably an advanced bottle so won't go into it further.
White
2008 Benoit Badoz Savagnin Côtes du Jura France, Jura, Côtes du Jura
84 points
Floral, stems and some alcohol heat. Disjointed and the alcohol pokes through over the fruit on the palate. Not undrinkable but not balanced.

Flight 3 (6 notes)

Red
2013 Passionvale Shiraz Sangiovese Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
90 points
Tasted blind. Vibrant purple in colour. There is plenty of interest on the nose - with raspberry, graphite, some smoky meat, spices and rhubarb. The acidity lifts up the sweet red fruit on the palate, there is actually a nice sweet and sour interplay happening. Some very light tannins provide some structure as well.

Revealed as a Passionvale Shiraz Sangiovese and I think this is the best wine I've tasted from them so far.
Red
2011 Bodegas Carlos Serres Rioja Piedra del Rayo Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
87 points
Cherry and chocolate with some oak influence and light perfume. Soft on the palate, with low tannin impact but good fruit intensity. Medium length. This is pretty crazy value at $5 AU.
Red
2005 Azienda Agricola Petrera Pasquale Primitivo Gioia del Colle Fatalone Riserva Italy, Puglia, Gioia del Colle
85 points
Charcoal, cherry, and some stewey medicinal character. The palate shows a disconnect between acid and fruit with the tannins sticking out on the mid palate too.

The next day the person that took the bottle home said that it had developed some major brett issues, so I guess that was causing some issues without being totally obvious.
Red
1996 The Rothbury Estate Shiraz Brokenback Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
91 points
Coconut, smoke, some leather and cherry aromas. Nice sweet black fruit on the pate, with soft tannins backing though they are very well integrated. In a really nice spot - good balance and length and really quite appealing to drink.

Red
2004 Curlewis Shiraz Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Geelong
flawed
Very herbaceous and not particularly pleasant. Hopefully an off bottle.
Red
2005 Spinifex Esprit Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
90 points
Spicy perfume with rhubarb and some leather as well as apricot. Tannins are bold but there is plenty of fruit that plays off the structure provided. Very good.

Flight 4 (1 note)

White
2008 Benoit Badoz Côtes du Jura Vin de Paille France, Jura, Côtes du Jura
87 points
Orange coloured. Almond, chocolate, apricot and a Jura styled slight oxidative edge. Quite sweet but the acidity ends refreshingly. Medium depth and the more I come back to it, the more the sweetness stands out over the acid. Good as a small serving.
