Flight 1 (6 notes)

White
1997 Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Hengst France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru
90 points
Oily, low acid, quite dry, with pronounced nectarine, almond, and flower scents. Exotic, still a lovely wine.
Red
1984 Bodegas Vega-Sicilia Ribera del Duero Valbuena 3° Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
Top shoulder fill. Weird nose of stewed tomato, brown sugar, & lots of old funky wood. Quite structured and intense palate still, but lacking fruit and focus. Peculiar.
Red
1987 Bodegas Riojanas Rioja Viña Albina Gran Reserva Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
91 points
American oak, Dr. Pepper, ice tea, potpourri, grandma's house nose. Silky, airy, lovely textured palate with black tea and cherry.
Red
1990 Château Meyney France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
93 points
Immaculate bottle purchased on release. Immediately poblano pepper on the nose, but evolving to include smoke, tobacco, earthy minerality, cement dust. Sweet currant under the stink, blistered green peppers, Andes mint. Beautiful, everything I want in a Bordeaux.
Red
1975 Tommasi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Recioto Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Antiseptic, plum, cherry skin, still tannin. Dry with lots of cellar character. OK, but not really a dessert wine.
Red - Fortified
1974 Domaine du Mas Blanc (Docteur Parcé) Banyuls Vieilles Vignes France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Banyuls
EtOH, eggnog, cola, macerated cherry. Smooth, moderately sweet, and mature. Nice.
