Introduction

Supper at Efendy as part of the big SMH dinner in October thing...

Flight 1 (5 notes)

White
2011 Sevilen Majestik Sauvignon Blanc-Sultaniye Turkey, Western Anatolia
Gooseberry with tiny passion fruit notes…clean, simple. In the mouth the wine has medium plus acid, tangy, slightly green notes, a little short with slight textured notes. Meh.
White
2010 Sevilen Sauvignon Blanc "900" Fume Blanc Turkey, Ege Bölgesi
green notes, oak, slight butter (or cream), slight cedar and some citrus notes. On the palate the wine is very green and tart with slight orchard pear fruit, mouth coating palate and slight oxidised notes. Meh.
Red
2011 Sevilen Kalecik Karası Plato Güney Platosu Turkey, Western Anatolia, Güney
slightly sour cherry and leather, earthy and spicy notes…with time a slight biscuit and raisin notes. In the mouth the wine has flavours of sour cherry, spice , medium plus acid and encroaching alcohol warmth on the medium length. Bit simple. Hmm
White
2011 Sevilen Chardonnay Plato Güney Platosu Turkey, Ege Bölgesi
citric lemony notes over very slight stone fruit. Cream with slight herbs. Very clean. On the palate there is tart lemon, slight cedar notes and a touch of astringency with a little tongue coating phenolic grip. Hmm.

Red
2010 Sevilen Syrah Centum Turkey, Western Anatolia, Güney
Meaty, savoury, slightly reductive with aromas of crushed rock and slight smokiness. With continued vigorous agitation there is some very slight cream and blackberry notes. In the mouth there is medium plus acidity which is quite tart. The wine is textually tight with grippy tannin and alcohol warmth. Bit simple and lacks fruit on the palate but reasonably well balanced.

Closing

It was interesting to try some local and international varietals from Turkey matched to food...The Sevilen Kalecik Karası Plato was nice
