Flight 1 (2 notes)

White
2012 Pascal Janvier Jasnières Cuvée du Silex France, Loire Valley, Jasnières
Ripe orchard fruits: apple, pear. Spices and chalk.
High acidity, refreshing. Really good wine.
White
2010 A. et P. de Villaine Rully Les Saints-Jacques Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Rully
Gentle oak on the nose and palate. Slightly buttery. Restrained style. A touch of hazelnut with lemon and apple. Round. Needs a little time to flesh out. Good acidity.
Nice wine.

Flight 2 (4 notes)

Red
2011 Guy Breton Morgon Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon
Lots of red fruits on the nose/palate with a hint of blueberry. Light but with a tannic grip on the finish. Nice granite notes with maybe a touch of stem. Lacking maybe a little bit on the mid palate.
Red
2012 Jean-Paul Thevenet Morgon Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon
Interesting contrast to the Breton Morgon '11 next to it. This has much more flesh, more concentrated and riper.
Rather firm nose with a mix of red and dark fruits (candied strawberry) with bramble. Almost a little jammy on the palate. Needs a little time.

Red
2011 Domaine Arretxea Irouléguy France, Southwest France, Pays Basque, Irouléguy
Elegant and restrained nose with cassis and blueberry notes and a nice savory element. Light herbal note (no bell pepper though). Beautiful silky texture. Impression of lightness.
Only 12%.
Red
2011 Domaine Catherine Le Goeuil Cairanne France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Cairanne
Not as complex as the '10 but again a very well balanced wine, holding its 14.5% very well. Earthy, dark fruits with licorice. No noticeable heat with a good acidity. Also interesting to note the color which is not as dark as the other wines from the appellation.
