Red
1995 Château Durfort-Vivens France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

This was the first year of making the wine back on the actual estate. (the estate has a tumultuous past and was the fruit in Chateau Margaux for a number of years). This is quite drinkable now with smooth and light tannins (5/10). SOme tobacco and cedar on the nose.

Red
2000 Château Ferrière France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

From a small 12 hectare lot this was an enjoyable wine in the style of the classic Chateau Margaux 1999 which we also had after this. Good strong and enjoyable tannins come through 7.5/10 and moderately dry on the finish.

Flight 4 (1 note)

Red
2005 Château Haut-Bages Libéral France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
90 points
Marmite and a lot of aromatics on the nose. Still needs time to lie down and evolve.

Flight 5 (1 note)

Red
2000 Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
89 points
Still brash and young with heavy tannins 7/10. Not a favorite for me. The Cab Franc and Verdot seem to be clashing in a feisty finish.

Flight 6 (1 note)

Red
1999 Château Margaux France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
95 points
This was my favorite wine of the night. Although very similar to the 1989 as well as similarities to the Ferriere 2000, the 1999 led the way.

Bold nose with hints of red fruit. This drank beautifully. Light velvet and a finish that is not intensely dry.

Looking back at my notes this is even better than 4 years ago when I had my last bottle.

Flight 7 (1 note)

Red
1989 Château Margaux France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
94 points
As with my note on the 1999 we we also drank tonight, I saw tremendous similarities. However, the 1989 is still more tannic and muscular (7/10) and probably has a few years to go to my ideal. Also a great wine. Interestingly a 100pts from Spectator.

Flight 8 (1 note)

White - Sweet/Dessert
2005 Château Guiraud France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
93 points
Easy drinking now. Not cloying yet sweet apricots with light pear. Simpler than normal. It lacks the harsh minerality on the finish which for me at times can be disturbing.
