Introduction

My friend Nik flew into town to court his love interest. As always, the company was as compelling as the wines. The food was ok, neither great nor lackluster. This is an average French Bistro in a nice area of Minneapolis. Corking fee was $20 w/lots of sharing with staff. Otherwise it is $20/btl.

Flight 1 (1 note)

Escargots - Traditionally prepared

White
2002 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Pale gold in color, notes of incense, balsawood, damp cellar, minerals, and flowers show nicely in the glass. It is beautifully textured with a hint of oak and fennel. I imagine the oak will continue to integrate over the next several years.

Flight 2 (1 note)

Duck Confit

Red
2002 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chênes Carteaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
87 points
This bottle was admittedly opened too young. Light brick red in color, medium in body, with scents of smoke, raspberry, and lilly showed nicely on the nose. On the pallet, some purple basil and tart cherry showed through the very present acid and tannin. I could see how this wine would develop, but at this stage I would not enourage opening it up.

Flight 3 (0 notes)

Three versions of creme brulee
