Flight 1 (1 note)

Opened the thelostverse as a nonblind starter.

Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Schramsberg Vineyards Mirabelle Brut Rose USA, California, North Coast
89 points
Melon, strawberry, minerals and floral notes. Medium bead with red berry fruit, almond and mineral flavors. Decent acidity; nice.

Flight 2 - I. Warm ups (4 notes)

Tasted double blind.

Rosé
2012 Château de Lancyre Pic St. Loup Rosé France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Pic St. Loup
89 points
Notes of watermelon, strawberry and minerals. The palate follows the bouquet, adding floral nuances and a bit of spice in the finish.
Rosé
2013 Bedrock Wine Co. Ode to Lulu Old Vine Rosé USA, California
87 points
Deeper color than the first wine in the flight. Red berry fruit with clay and spice notes. Has a little bit of spice/pepper in the finish. I guessed Spanish grenache.
Rosé
2012 Soliste Cellars Pinot Noir Soleil Rouge USA, California, Sonoma County
90 points
Good pink color. Perfumed floral notes give way to watermelon and berries with an underlying Sauv Blanc-like grassy note. Flavors of white peach, strawberry and melon with a spice note lingering on the finish.
Rosé
2013 Château de Trinquevedel Tavel France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Tavel
90 points
Aromas of florals, melon and minerals. Nice fruit; berries, mineral and melon flavors with a nice finish. 89-90+

Flight 3 - II. Reds (5 notes)

Tasted double blind.

Red
2007 Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Reserva Finca Ygay Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
89 points
Dark color with notes of jammy raspberry, red fruit and black raspberry. Nice fruit on the palate, with vanilla lingering on the finish. Good but nondescript; I had no guess.
Red
2002 Domaine Tollot-Beaut Chorey-Côte-de-Beaune France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chorey-Côte-de-Beaune
90 points
Light color. Opens with a subtle meaty note followed by perfumed cherry fruit. Bright fruit on the palate with a long finish. Balanced and elegant. I guessed Pinot and should have known this was a Burg.
Red
2010 Castle Rock Pinot Noir Sonoma County USA, California, Sonoma County
91 points
Aromas of cherry, clay and red fruit. Balanced, with cherry, clay, earth and spice flavors on the palate. Guessed Sonoma Pinot.
Red
2005 Flowers Pinot Noir Andreen-Gale Sonoma Coast USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Notes of pepper, incense and red fruit with a subtle vegetal undertone. Cherry and cola flavors Guessed RRV Pinot.
Red
2002 Stanley Lambert Cabernet Sauvignon Thoroughbred Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
90 points
Very herbal- eucalyptus and other green herb qualities, along with green pepper and dark fruit. Red and dark fruit on the palate. Medium tannins with vanilla and spice tones on the finish with more eucalyptus. Guessed Cab Franc.

Flight 4 - III. Reds (5 notes)

Tasted double blind.

Red
2003 Bodegas Alejandro Fernández La Mancha El Vínculo Spain, Castilla-La Mancha, La Mancha
Dark color with aromas of beef bouillon cube and raisins. Sour dark fruit on the palate with more bouillon qualities. This is vile stuff. I was fairly certain it was our Vinculo.
Red
1987 Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley
91 points
Faded garnet color with some bricking. Aromas of herbs, tobacco and iodine- I love the bouquet on this. Nicely balanced and fully-integrated. Perhaps just slightly drying out- but only slightly. Flavors of iodine, currants and iron with red fruit on the finish, which is on the short side of medium. I thought we had a Bordeaux here, from a weaker vintage.
Red
2011 Stefania Nueva Casa de los Padres Special Reserve USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains
92 points
Notes of macerated strawberry, florals and dark fruit. Black raspberry and floral qualities on the palate. Finishes very well, as did the last bottle, with lingering dark fruit and herbal qualities. Double blind, Mrs. TLV liked it this time around, however Domino still did not...good...the last four bottles are mine.
Red
2005 Rubicon Estate Cabernet Franc USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
86 points
Aromas of vanilla, boysenberry, currants and dark fruit; ripe. Dark fruit and oak spice on the palate with firm, obtrusive tannins and vanilla- loads of oak here. No guess; no one thought Cab Franc.
Red
2005 Turley Zinfandel Old Vines USA, California
Raisin and candied red fruit aromas lead to a palate that is port-like and rather sour. I couldn't take more than one sip.

Flight 5 - IV. Reds (4 notes)

Tasted double blind.

Red
2005 Flowers Pinot Noir Frances Thompson Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
84 points
The bouquet has a hint of bouillon, along with dark fruit and florals. Red and dark fruit on the palate as well but with a bouillon quality there as well. Guessed over-the-hill Cab.
Red
2006 Château Le Thil Comte Clary France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
86 points
Aromas of tobacco and currants. Flavors of dark fruit, currants and herbs. Has a sour quality to the fruit on the finish. Guessed Bordeaux.
Red
2007 Verum Malbec Reserva Argentina, Patagonia, Río Negro, Alto Valle del Rio Negro
85 points
Hot; port-like; black fruit and floral notes eventually emerge from beneath the alcohol. Black fruit and oak dominates the palate. Hot and alcoholic. Perhaps there's enough fruit to absorb the oak and alcohol but I wouldn't bet on it. No guess as to what this was.
Red
2012 Ridge Carignane Buchignani Ranch USA, California, Sonoma County
86 points
Notes of vanilla and red fruit. Monolithic; vanilla and red fruit with firm tannins and not much else. No guess.

As it turns out this had just been shipped and arrived the day before the tasting...a case for travel shock? Or perhaps just in a dumb phase?

Flight 6 - Nonblind dinner & dessert wines. (1 note)

TLV smoked a couple of pork shoulders and served up all of the sides & trimmings. What a great way to end the evening.

Red
1999 L'Ecole No. 41 Merlot Columbia Valley USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
88 points
Opened by Sue with dinner. Dusty currant and subtle herb notes on the nose and palate. Tannins are light but somewhat chalky, and the wine dries out a bit on the finish.
