Sunriver, OR

Introduction

I was looking to do something a bit fun for Memorial Day, so I pulled out a sort-of vertical of Pepper Bridge to compare how it aged. Since we had a few people over, I was able to get an overall impression of what they thought of the wine as well.

Well, it appears I didn't follow my own rule, and I ended up paying for it. The wine was in a bit of a down period. A mixed up nose to start, followed by chocolate, coke, and red fruit on the palate. Tannins definitely present. Medium finish.

This wine ended up being 3/3 for me and the crowd gave it 2/3.

It appears, at least for me, that this wine is starting to come into its own. Ripe blackberries and a hint of oak on the nose. Good body and lots of black fruit lead to a smooth finish. Still lots of life left, so if you wanted to lay them down for a few years out of caution I think you'd be fine.

This wine was 1/3 for me and 3/3 for the crowd.

Black currant and cedar aromas. Also a bit leathery. Not as robust of a body or flavor as I was hoping for--the potential was definitely there, but it didn't quite come together. Black fruit and tannins on the palate. Medium finish.

This wine was 2/3 for me and 1/3 for the crowd.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

Rosé
2010 Sokol Blosser Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
This bottle was better than the last, but the acid is still diminished to the point of not being great. Drink now. Actually, drink last year...

Floral nose with a strong orange bent. Slightly sweet on the palate, but with a nice balance of acid. Good balance of flavors also--some melon, some citrus, and some vanilla. Quite pleasant overall.

This wine has come together very nicely. Oregon funk and dark fruit on the nose, with similar flavors following. Very smooth and drinkable.
