Introduction

With the usual wine gang.

Flight 1 (3 notes)

Red
1982 Château Duhart-Milon France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
93 points
Popped and poured. But by the time I got there, already slow-oxed in bottle for about an hour. I saw that the corked was soaked almost to the top.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with herbaceous green bell peppers, tobacco, blackberries, blackcurrant, and black cherries. Developed.
On the palate, dry, good high acidity, medium alcohol, integrated slightly dusty medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavor intensity, with flavours of herbaceous green bell peppers, tobacco, blackberries, blackcurrant, and black cherries. The sweetness of the blackberries increased with more air. Very fresh fruit flavours, amazing for a wine so old. Long finish.
Outstanding quality. I liked the sweet fruits, if only there was less herbaceousness. Drink up now.
Red
2006 Château Sainte Anne Bandol France, Provence, Bandol
91 points
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, dark ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of gamey animal (my friend said bretty), cigarbox/tobacco, and spice. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, dusty furry medium+ tannins, full body. Medium flavor intensity, with flavours of gamey animal, cigarbox/tobacco, spice, dark cherries, redcurrant, prunes, and later on developed a bit of rubber. Complex. Long finish.
Very good quality. Quite impressive I must say, as this Bandol is already so approachable and open at a relatively young age.
Elegant and different from the deep, wild and powerful style of other Bandol Reds. Can drink now, will improve with age and and will be interesting to re-explore this wine again in 5 years.
Vinification is traditional, and wines are vinified using only the natural, indigenous yeasts with a low level of sulphites used throughout the whole process.

White
2008 Château-Grillet (Neyret-Gachet) Château-Grillet France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Château-Grillet
90 points
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of light toasted oak, light white flowers, steely minerality, and citrusy lime. Developing.
On the palate, dry, good high acidity, medium alcohol, full body. Medium+ flavor intensity, with flavours of honey, lemon-lime, pomelo-flesh, and steely minerality. Long finish.
Good quality. Now my gripe - what is lacking here is the ripe tropical fruits and apricot flavours, and also the aromatic floral scents.
My guess is that we drank this way too young (true), and also because of the rainy dilute 2008 vintage. Impressive acidity for a Viognier though. Will be interesting to re-explore and give this another chance in 3-5 years' time.
