Introduction

So much anticipation, and Gin Tonic. And then some. Summer screaming its prescence with 34 degrees...

Flight 1 - 7 course dinner (2 notes)

The reds never quite were allowed to shine... Nevertheless, they were quite wonderful by themselves.

An absolute bonker!
Super concentrated (no sediment), mega young, not at all integrated with raw wood attacking your senses like a a hairy medieval scotsman with a club...

But the grace within is like a well brought up princess. Amazing and astonishing! Spicy, fruity, multi-layered and grande in a way that Aglianico rarely is. This is soooo refined you'd need a microscope to work your way around its intricate details. Apart from young and unintegrated, this is a fabulous wine of sorts.

Just relax, remain patient and watch it grow through the TN's of all the early drinkers.

This wine really deserves its credits. The cousins behind it are worthy of all the praise. Yay! What a feat! This is a must-visit. And a must buy.

Has exploded since our previous btl 2 yrs ago. Now fully mature and on its plateau completely. (Decanted 4 hrs.)

Robe: Very mature, browning red colours.
Nose: Dark fruits, coffee and ample amounts of Basset's All Sorts, anise seed and licorice. Very modern in style.
Palate: Great tannic structure of mature, smooth, berry induced tannins: M++. Acids are M+ and accompany the fleshy fruit well. The wine is now layered, structured and concentrated with omph. And it is, quite possibly, the most perfect wine for grilled beef, yaki niku. We had a stupid bird (la pintade) for the main dish, so we didn't let the wine shine.

My personal preference is towards the less extracted Barolos, but this is such a vibrant and fabulous wine, that I can only surrender.

Final btl. If we had more (and if ours was descriptive) we'd go for them in the 1-4 year scope. Not for the long term from today's showing. From previous TN and my memory, I was surprised that no leathery notes came forth...

Flight 2 - Fois gras and cheese plate (1 note)

Half of this btl was devoured with Fois gras on rice. French sushi. The other half was not enough for the cheese plates...

This is still as if untouched by the years: light golden colour, fruity nose and a happy Auslese with white flowers, superb concentration, M sugars (for Auslese), ok acids, lots of honeyed Riesling notes, restrained everywhere with small petrochem and some spicy notes of sweaty taxi driver.

Given some 20 or 30 years, this will be a truly awesome wine of absolute distinction. I really, really, really wish I could drink this again in 20-or-so years' time. This may very well become a 100 point wine. It has it all, except it is not yet at its station. This wine blew our minds...

Absolutely married the fois gras on rice ”French sushi” at restaurant Tani in Tokyo. Also did exceptionally well with the cheese plate. This is a killer wine! We agreed that it has exactly the personality that a wife should have in order to make you the happiest man on Earth.

Yowza!

Flight 3 - Hemmavid (1 note)

Eftersläckning är en dygd, en odygd och ett kärt problem. Bäst att hantera som en tüsk angelägenhet.

With a price tag close to Chablis GC, this face-plant fails to deliver on reality check.

It makes me sad to see how they put so much effort in to destroying their own brand name with a silly wine like this.
I would really like to have this wine (unprepared) in a blind tasting. Maybe I'd give it an 80-ish score as an everyday summer white? Wife's comment upon tasting this made ME feel as if I just had had a face plant...

Generic Chardonnay on the nose and palate. Acides are M+ and fruit is quite: M. Palate includes Chardonnay specific aromas and the non-specific terroir that could be either Oz, NZ, CA, Bourg or generic Fra... Wine has nothing to specify this as a Chablis. No seashells. No seashore. Nothing transparent, nothing allowing for chalk or anything else "terroiristic" to shine through. Just simply your average happy $5 Cali Chard for the Sunday shrimps with banjo music.

Have 3 btls left and my ethics disallows me to sell them to someone else. I bought them from famous persons' words. I really don't need the shame from meddling with these. So, will see if something happens with these btls. At least, it seems these petit Chablis (1er cru) don't suffer from prem-ox. At least something that is fine and useful! :-)

We left happy, warmly anticipating August's night with Bacchus. And then some :-)
