Flight 1 - Champagnes (4 notes)

White - Sparkling

Nice as always. Yeasty, bready, rich and complex. Palate bursted with citrus, cream, and minerals. Delish.

White - Sparkling
2004 Ruinart Champagne Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs France, Champagne

Really tight at this point. The aromas were giving off some floral notes and sweet lemon, but they weren't all that deep. The palate was firm and while it had very nice lemon/lime tones, it was pretty clear to me that it's going to take a lot of time for this 2004 to unwind itself. Seems to be a general theme for the 2004 champagnes...time is your friend!

Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Ruinart Champagne Brut Rosé France, Champagne

Very solid rose with a lot of tart berries, tons of energy, and nice citrus undertones. For my palate, I think this could use a decant...hopefully flesh out some of those berry tones a bit more.

Definitely a classy NV from Ruinart. Rich, textured, and balanced this had great citrus and mineral tones. Ripping acidity there was a tartness that I really enjoyed on the palate.

Flight 2 - Cheval des Andes (3 notes)

Coffee, earth, dark fruit and spices. Wasn't really sure what to expect here, and the age gave this a nice leathery feel to it, but I think it might be just a hair past peak. The fruit seemed a bit tired.

Big and rich I really enjoyed this. While the wine's profile was a bit big/heavy compared to what I usually drink, it had nice acidity which kept it from being too glossy or jammy. The blackberries on the palate were mixed with some coffee, earth, and spice notes. Seems to be drinking at or around peak.

Oaky, dense and overly ripe I thought this was an average wine. Not for me.

Flight 3 - Bodega Numanthia (2 notes)

Red
2010 Bodega Numanthia Toro Numanthia Spain, Castilla y León, Toro

Had a tough time with this one. The fruit was super ripe and jammy and there was just a ton of oak tones. Maybe it'll settle down with time, but to me, this was an average wine at this point.

Yikes, this is ripe and forward. Not my style of wine there was just too much alcohol/oak showing at this point. More of a cocktail than a wine.
