Flight 1 - Champagne (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
1989 Henriot Champagne Cuvée des Enchanteleurs Brut France, Champagne
89 points
This champagne featured a dark golden color with plenty of flavors of yeast and lemon coming forth. There was a distinct off putting flavor profile on the finish preventing me from fully enjoying this bottling. If I had to describe it, I can only simply say it tasted... dirty? Storage conditions are questionable. HS89
White - Sparkling
1999 Pierre Morlet Champagne Premier Cru Brut Millésimé France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
94 points
This champagne came off lighter in color showing a nice straw yellow hue. On the palate, nice yeasty flavors were evident with citrus and apple notes coming afterwards. Very nice and balanced bottle of bubbly with great acidity. Went well with the tuna tartare cucumber cup and the lox appetizers. HS94

Flight 2 - Whites (2 notes)

White
2006 Mollydooker Verdelho The Violinist Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
90 points
This verdelho had a light straw color and on the nose reminded me of a sauvignon blanc with citrus and tropical flavors being quite prominent. On the palate, this wine coated my mouth with flavors of apples, pears, and marshmallow (I know that sounds weird, but this wine stuck out for that very reason). A fun white and definitely a great value at $13.99. HS90
White
2004 Ramey Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros
92 points
This chardonnay exhibited a rich golden yellow color. On the palate, concentrated fruit flavors were prominet with lemon, apples, and pear being the main players with the oak rearing its head into the profile followed with a nice, clean buttery finish with hints of floral characteristics. Certainly enjoyable and I look forward to trying another in a year or two to see what some bottle age can do to this. HS92

Flight 3 - Reds (9 notes)

Red
2002 Kistler Pinot Noir Cuvée Catherine USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
95 points
This wine received the most buzz from those that had arrived earlier than me... so I had high expectations which were met. This pinot exhibited a bright ruby color with a nose of black cherries and ripe raspberries with hints of blueberries and anise. On the palate, flavors of black raspberries and cherries led the way leading to an earthy midpalate that continued to the finish that had hints of mushrooms. Smooth tannins provide a nice silky mouthfeel add to this wines depth. WOW! HS95
Red
2005 Joel Gott Zinfandel California USA, California
85 points
Ummm... ranks a little bit above the Rosenblum Vintner's Cuvee I had a while back... but not by much. Sweet raspberry flavors with light tannins but a truncated finish. No complexity here. HS85
Red
2004 Avalon Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley
87 points
Having already tasted this on numerous occasion, I got a quick taste to see how this particular bottling was showing. Still a great QPR, showing dark berry flavors with a hint of oak and earth. Nice smooth tannins. HS87
Red
1997 Jones Family Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points
I was told that this was double decanted. This cabernet came off with flavors of black cherries, blackberries, and mocha with smooth tannins and a nice lingering finish. Showed some restraint and definitely not an in-your-face cabernet. Nice, subtle and complex. HS93
Red
2000 Etude Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Napa Valley
92 points
This cabernet showed big, bold flavors of plums and black cherries with hints of cinnamon and vanilla in the finish. The oak played a huge role in the flavor profile in the beginning but with time in the glass gave way to the other flavors. Nice firm tannins. HS92
Red
2003 Turley Zinfandel Moore "Earthquake" Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley
89 points
My first Turley. This zinfandel was quite over the top with a syrupy mouthfeel filled with flavors of raspberries and plums being the prominent players. Enjoyable... but I don't get all the hype. HS89
Red
2005 Glaetzer Godolphin Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
94 points
Decanted for 6 hours. This wine exhibited a rich dark purple color with a wonderul nose filled with scents of blueberries, blackberries, and plums with hints of earth, bacon fat, and violets. On the palate, rich flavors of blueberries, chocolate, and spice were quickly followed with hints of vanilla leading to a nice lengthy finish that provided the same lingering flavors. A well made wine and thoroughly enjoyable. HS94
Red
2004 Kilikanoon Shiraz Oracle Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Clare Valley
93 points
Decanted for 3 hours with a vigourous shaking prior to throwing into the decanter. This shiraz showed a rich dark purple color throughout. On the nose, huge aromas of blueberries and blackberries jumped out with hints of tar and violets. On the palate, this wine provided rich, powerful flavors of blueberries, blackberries, and black cherries with hints of spice and oak on the finish. Great potential, but a step below the 2003. HS93
Red
2004 Kilikanoon Shiraz Covenant Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Clare Valley
92 points
Decanted for 3 hours with a vigourous shaking prior to throwing into the decanter. This shiraz showed a rich dark purple color throughout. On the nose, huge aromas of blueberries and blackberries with hints of oak and spice. On the palate, nice rich flavors of blueberries and blackberries led the way leading to a smooth fulfilling finish. Only a little step below the Oracle and starting to feel a better value is to be had with this wine. HS92

Flight 4 - Dessert (1 note)

White - Sweet/Dessert
2003 Domaine des Baumard Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru
94 points
This wine exhibited a rich golden color with a flavor profile of honey poached pears and vanilla with a nice rich finish. Delicious! Too bad I didn't have time to truly enjoy this as I only got a sample on my way out. HS94
