Really liked the yeasty, slightly oxidative notes that accompanied this wine. Combine those with crisp pear, apple, and some mushroom-y notes, I thought this was a seductive champagne. Solera bottlings intrigue me and this was a fine example.

Sensational bottle yet again. The intensity of the salinity here is really something...and I love salty wines! Along with the ocean-like flavor, this was brimming with tropical fruits. Namely, peaches, pineapple, and mango. My only gripe with this bottle is that I have a hard time finding some to buy.

1996 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon France, Champagne

Hadn't had one of these in a couple years, and it seemed to taste even younger now. The bead was a bit tighter, the flavors a bit more wound up. Lots to love even with the wine buzzing in your ear. Elegant yeasty notes, beautiful lemon, and pears, with great acidity. Might make sense to decant this in the future.

About what you'd expect from a 1998 Burgundy at this point. Very fleshy without much grip on the palate. The aromas were very round; peaches, mangos, and cream. Wasn't a huge fan of this, which was a shame. I usually am a sucker for Leflaive wines.

Gave this about 5 hours of air before dinner. Had a dark and spicy nose with some light floral notes tossed in too. I thought the palate was nice, but it certainly didn't have the depth and complexity that I'd hope from this cuvee. Chalking it up to its age rather than the wine itself. If you have bottles, I'd recommend holding them for at least another 3-5 years.

2005 Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Clos St. Urbain France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru

Plush nose of mangos, peaches, and lemon cream. The palate followed suit with a big bouquet of tropical fruits and a creaminess to the wine that is somewhat expected for ZH. Could have used a bit more balance.

2005 Jean et Gilles LaFouge Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru La Chapelle France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru

Exactly what I'm looking for from a wine from Beaune. Flavors were bright, spicy, and accessible. The palate was juicy with great red fruit, light florals and nice grip. And the finish was structured and tense. Should have a good future ahead of it...but it's quite nice to drink today, too!

Corky notes eventually came to the surface. Shame...there were some nice hints of old Leroy on the nose.

2011 Jacques Puffeney Poulsard Arbois "M" France, Jura, Arbois

A beautiful Poulsard. Lithe cherry and rose flavors melded together very nicely all around a core of damp earth tones. I think these will a treat with some additional age on them.

2013 Jean-François Ganevat De Toute Beauté Nature France, Vin de France

Lots of raspberry, wet earth and bright cranberry. A lot to like with this wine but I think time will allow some of the tightly wound flavors to ease back a bit. I know there are some that aren't too keen on Ganevat's foray into Beaujolais, but I like the direction it's headed.

2010 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Everything was in the right place with this wine and it was fantastic. The nose was airy, salty, citrusy...The palate had great cut with big, cool fruit throughout. Pears, lemons, limes...think "fresh fruit". Really nice salty/mineral tones too gave it a real sense of place. A powerful Preuses!

2005 F.X. Pichler Riesling Smaragd Loibner Oberhauser Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

The aromatics fall in line with what you'd expect from Pichler. White peach, tangerine, cranberries, and a hint of vanilla. It's palate was fleshy, but also had some tart berry tones throughout that gave it a nice balance. Decent acidity on the finish.

2004 F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Dürnsteiner Kellerberg Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

Another distinctively Pichler nose with powerful white pepper/tangerine/melon aromas. The palate had a touch of spike-y somewhat sour fruit, but I enjoyed its floral and melon-driven elements. A funky wine, but it showed the big, powerful, flavor that Pichler can pump out from Kellerberg.
