Introduction

Great meal with good friends and many laughs. Really great evening

Flight 1 (1 note)

Grilled Diver Scallop with Pickled Sweet Pepper, Radish and Frisee Salad

White
2012 M. Chapoutier Hermitage Blanc Chante-Alouette France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
90 points
Floral on the nose.
Peach and melon with a layer of minerality. Laser focused. Perfect match with the seared scallops.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

Roasted Verlasso Salmon with Crispy Chorizo Hariot Vert

Red
2012 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Rosso di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino
89 points
Rich silky coating on the mouth. Subtle red cherry flavor in an old world style with leather, tobacco and spices. Really well done.
Red
2012 Cecchi Chianti Classico Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
88 points
Double decanted. A nice chianti that was overshadowed by the Il Poggione Rosso. A more modern style, with dark fruit. The acidity was a little high even for a chianti but that is nit picking.

Flight 3 (1 note)

Braised Kaiser Farms Duck with Sage Farfalle

Red
2012 Two Hands Shiraz Gnarly Dudes Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
90 points
Double decanted.
Dark purple in the glass. Big nose of fruit.
An Aussie Shiraz in every way, this wine will turn your teeth purple. Over the top fruit. I really appreciate the wine within the context of its style. It is not a style that I prefer, but it is excellent for what it is. And it really was a great match for braised duck with sage farfalle.

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Roasted Tenderloin of Beef
Sweet Potato Mascarpone Puree
Cipollini Onion and English Peas

Red
2013 Two Hands Cabernet Sauvignon Sexy Beast Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
89 points

As the Chimney Rock was old world, this is clearly new world. Big nose of berries and a hint on menthol.
Big flavors of dark berries with upfront tannins. In your face with a big finish. The name said it all.....a beast.
Red
2012 Chimney Rock Blending Party Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District
91 points
Double decanted.
Big, big nose.
Old world style, balanced with good tannins. Currant, tobacco, spices with medium body. Really drinking nicely for such a young wine.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Roasted Pear and Brown Butter Tart

White - Sweet/Dessert
2011 Alois Kracher Cuvée Beerenauslese Austria, Burgenland, Neusiedlersee
92 points
floral nose.
Rich honeyed fruit. Citrus, pineapple (?) all wrapped in rich honey. Long, long finis.
I have had the chance to have several Kracher numbered wines and they are wonderful. For my taste they can hold their own against any Sauterne.
