Sveta's Bday Bash at Prune

Introduction

It was really great to have you guys come celebrate with us! thanks to all attending - Sonya, Max, Paola, Ronnie and Ivan.

A note on the dinner - we booked the "semi-private" table at Prune and brought the wines with us. The corkage is $25 per bottle - which is both fair and, with their excellent pricing on the meal, perfectly fine with me.
The dinner was served in 3 courses. 3 apps - family style for the table. Mains - a choice of 3 - each person chose for themselves, plus 3 sides served family style. And a selection of desserts.
They also brought out a wishbone for the birthday girl to make a wish on - a lovely touch.

The food was excellent - no dishes that i would not want to eat again and again. As standouts - the side of spring onions with romesco was amazing. both the Lamb and the Duck were delicious and perfectly cooked.
The service was perfect - our server was always glad to help and was both omnipresent and non-intrusive. Overall the staff did an amazing job - from the booking of the party - to the email conversations about the menu and all the arrangements.
The email exchanges were quick and very pleasant. This is the kind of care i look for in a restaurant. Thanks again guys!

All the wines showed well - nothing too fancy here but it was a pleasure to share them in the lovely company of people we can easily call family.

last of 3 bottles. lovely stuff - i may even try to get more! (unheard of for me - a sparkler??) apples, dry cider note, bit of brioche, good crisp mid with citrus notes. long finish. excellent stuff.
Red
2003 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
90 points
fully mature - no reason to hold. excellent balance for an 03 - no overripe notes at all. clean red fruit, fruit and herb mid, nice long finish. the acidity is fresh but maybe a touch "rough". good wine - and great value.

was worried with all the "over the hill" notes - but no issues here! (my cellar is a bit colder than most) This is lovely - young even. Great nose of cassis and pencil. ripe mid with black fruit and a hint of herb. bright acidity and still a bit of a tannic grip on the finish. lovely mature BDX... def my favorite red tonight and - it was the fastest drained bttl even though it was 3rd to be opened.

Red
2007 Torzi Matthews Shiraz "Schist Rock" Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley

ripe sweet fruit and blackberry. Touch of vanilla, mid is ripe and rich but with a core of spice and savory notes. finishes dry and on the savory end - but a bit short. with time - opened more sweet fruit while keeping in balance. good wine but not exciting. alc not showing at all (to reply to previous notes on the wine).
