Flight 1 (12 notes)

Red
2012 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Villages Cuvée USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
medium garnet colored.
ripe tart cherry flavors. nice
Red
2011 Penner-Ash Pinot Noir Willamette Valley USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
medium garnet colored. Lean dry cola flavors, medium light bodied
Red
2011 Cristom Pinot Noir Jessie Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
very light, almost watermelon juice colored.
very nice, dry cherry cola and spice flavors. (100% whole clusters?)
Red
2009 Brick House Pinot Noir Cuvée du Tonnelier USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge
fairly light garnet colored.
Very ripe, almost overripe spicy strawberry cola flavors, but yet restrained enough for an elegant drink. (50% whole cluster?)
Red
2009 Carabella Pinot Noir Inchinnan Carabella Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Chehalem Mountains
medium garnet colored. At first you get hit by a fairly big whiff of alcohol. But then, some nice ripe pinot flavors. Consensus was that this could've come out of RRV instead of Chehalem. Didn't finish overly hot (surprisingly)
Red
2008 Antica Terra Pinot Noir Botanica USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
medium garnet colored.
At first taste, this is like a ripe fizzy cherry soda. The extra bit of CO2 blew off leaving a ripe dark cherry, bigger styled wine. easy to like.
Red
2008 Antica Terra Pinot Noir USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
The regular bottling tasted a bit sweeter, with a bit of a sharp bite. nice earthy flavors. not quite as flamboyant as the Botanica.
Red
2008 Beacon Hill Estate Pinot Noir USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton
medium garnet colored. Beautiful earthy, strawberry cola flavors with a fair amount of minerality. But finished with a slightly off-putting tinny note. This otherwise marred what seemed to be quite a nice wine.
Red
2006 Scott Paul Cellars Pinot Noir Audrey USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
fairly light garnet colored.
Incredibly soft, ripe easy upon opening (screw top).
But after a short while much more interesting, earthy, secondary flavors.
This turned out to be my WOTN.
Red
2001 Beaux Frères Pinot Noir Beaux Frères Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge
some very upfront prickly chemical acidity. An odd mix of flavors - strong grapefruit peel and cherry cough syrup. Interesting, but this didn't seem to age well. (Almost) universally panned and dumped by the group tonight.
Red
2004 Etude Pinot Noir Heirloom USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros
Very ripe, sorta secondary flavors, with just a hint of residual oak.
Despite the ripeness, this actually drinks more elegantly than it would suggest, but just a bit of heat in the finish detracts in the end.
Red
2005 Château Smith Haut Lafitte France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
dark dense scarlet with a fair amount of sediment. Some smoky ripe dark berry flavors. Still fairly nascent (Blind, I thought it was the 09 or 10). I think this will be fantastic with time (perhaps a lot of time).
