Introduction

Colene Clemens Vineyards has been a favorite of mine since I found them about 5 years ago. The tasting room and patio at the winery is an amazing place to taste and then enjoy a bottle with a Napa style lunch.

First up was the 2012 Margo followed by the 2012 Adriane. Each wine was consumed with a variety of cheeses and crackers on a sunny Colorado day.

Flight 1 - The 2012 Margo (0 notes)

Popped and Poured and and consumed for 3 hours so it had good air time in glass. Started at cellar temperature of 56 degrees.

Medium purple with decent clarity. Rich but soft nose of bright cherry, cola and damp moss.

On the palate the Margo is lively with bright acids, firm cherry, hints of cola and well balanced alcohol. This is their less expensive wine and it's a solid 91 point wine. The fruits, acids, tame tannin and alcohol are beautifully co-mingled and its a delicious Pinot to drink now or over the next several years.

Flight 2 - The 2012 Adriane (0 notes)

Another Popped and Poured but consumed over 4 hours. Medium to dark purple but decent clarity in the glass. Again started at cellar temperature of 56 degrees.

Nose of the Adriane is soft with muted red & black cherry, red earth and a slight Asian spice. It did open as the temperature increased but it held together pretty tight.

On the palate you feel the richness of the wine and more of the red cherry fruits are peeking though. Well balanced and the tame tannin should allow this to be cellar gem for a several years. This is a 91 point wine now but I believe it will earn a 92+ in 2016 or 2017, the bones are there.

Closing

I wanted to dig into the 2012's early and as expected I was not disappointed... I try to keep enough on hand so that I can enjoy these wines frequently over the next several years. Feel free to follow that lead, you will not be disappointed :) Or don't... but then you may be disappointed.

Cheers
