First time we cross paths with this wine and a very nice surprise.
Good, ripe, toasty notes on the nose. Well round and with nice rich notes on the palate, apple feel. A pretty solid wine albeit a bit generic in its solidness. 91

Flight 2 - The Small Dishes (3 notes)

Quail Egg on lightly fried potato with black truffle caviar & shave of black truffle
A Burger for Jorge - Sweet Potato & mushroom burger

We thought of pairing this with Old Barolo & Barbaresco but the bottles didn't play along.

Badly oxidised. Another old Italian, another bad bottle...

and another bad old Italian. Why do we bother buying these we don't really know...

From magnum and we did not feel it needed decanting.
A pretty solid wine and still goes strong albeit we would suggest one drinks this sooner than later as the charm of this wine is its core of fruit.
Well matured, light secondary touch but still decent amount of fruit on the nose, light touch of tar maybe. On the palate it is still healthy, vibrant and with good tannin albeit silky and round. A pretty solid Barolo. 92-93

From magnum, its only bottled in magnums actually.
Needs decanting, a good hour or so to open up but also lose a bit of a struck match note.
Post decanting this is a really fine and elegant Barolo. Having just tried a week ago its sibling from the 2001 vintage ( Papies 95) this felt a bit past its peak and the fruit is staring to die away. A great Barolo nonetheless but one to have sooner than later. 93

Tajarin with a light "carbonara-esque" sauce with seriously smoke bacon infused butter and black truffle

Requires a touch of decanting.
This is drinking beautifully now but has a few more years before it reaches its peak. But a superb wine by Clerico. The nose is a mix of dark cherry and nuts, hazelnuts. On the palate it has a nice core of fruit, the oak is fully assimilated and the tannin in now silky albeit firm. This is now in a nice place but no rush to drink it as it has quite a few more summers to go.

We believe this is 2010. Has an indication of L01/10 but most likely this is a NV bottling. 95% White Moscato and 5% Passula. Grapes harvested with a touch of noble rot and ferment for a long period.
A playful nose, moscato for sure aromatics, light a easy but with a serious side on the palate. A very nice semi sweet core of fruit and an overall pretty enjoyable wine when one is not after a very rich sweet wine. 88ish

As always a beautiful and rich mix of pear, rich fruity pear and cognac. Rich and with a few syrupy touches on the palate but a very nice digestif.

Well round and smooth grappa, serious though and of good quality. And has the extra ace in its sleeve of the beautiful brand. A very good way to finish a greatt dinner.

Maybe its the fact that it came at the end of a lovely dinner or maybe that we got used it. For sure not for the faint hearted and at 58.8% will not go without notice. But with a touch of water this develops nicely and has a charm. Maybe we were too harsh the first time..
