Introduction

We gathered at Kinjiro to celebrate. Great food, great wine, great company. What else do you need?

Flight 1 (6 notes)

White
2010 Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières Domaine France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
93 points
From magnum. Very 2010. Dense white fruits, powerful acidity and a lovely rich texture. Very rich and dense with a nice vanilla lemon tone, this is an absolutely convincing bottle of Meursault. The oak is very judiciously used here.

White
2008 Louis Carillon Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
98 points
A truly welcome bastard. Very rich with a huge amount of white and yellow citrus. Sappy but totally cut with insane acidity. Easily one of the best chardonnays I've had this year.
White
1999 Coche-Dury Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
flawed
Heartbreaking. I thought this was alright at first, showing the correct density, but the pervasive baked apple note and a slight oxidative note makes me call it as the pox.

Red
1996 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
93 points
Very dark and brooding. If anything this shut down more with air. Lots of earth and mushroom. Good structure, quite austere but a fair bit of fruit. Very high acidity and pretty stern structure, though not as astringent as a lot of 96s can be.
Red
1991 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
93 points
Very potenr and dense black fruit with very prominent acidity. This had the acidic tartness of a 96 but without the tannic structure. A really old-school Burgundy. Rustic and convincing.
Red
1995 Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
88 points
Showing about what you'd expect from this bottle. Foursquare and passable. Not the most complex, but this shows a fair bit of secondary character. A bit of rust, some nice notes of mushroom. Nothing interesting but decent.
