Flight 1 (9 notes)

Red
2005 Campos de Solana Coleccion de Altura - Gran Reserva Bolivia
89 points
Blind tasting, wine number 1, bag number 2. Garnet red in color. Musty nose with some floral notes and that of potpourri. Low tannins with a body that starts off slowly and then gets fuller (not full) in the end. Finish lingers for a few that is slightly tangy and metallic.
Red
2012 Entre Nous Malbec USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville
91 points
Blind tasting, wine number 2, bag number 4. Clear and ruby red with moderate to high intensity. This wines is very tight. Not sure how long it was decanted but it needs a lot more. Only thing noticed on the nose was dark berries. Moderate tannins (5.5/10) and moderate body, quite a bit of fur. Additionally a little cassis on the palate. Definitely needs a longer decant. But very very enjoyable malbec. Would love to try this again lots of potential!
Red
2012 The Wine Foundry Le Chabrot Hennesey Ridge USA, California, Napa Valley
91 points
Blind tasting, wine number 3, bag number 1. Dark and opaque ruby red. Nose started off tight with chalk and a stinky shoebox. Once it aired out for a little bit over 2 hours it started to explode with cassis and blueberries. Moderate body with moderate plus tannins (7/10). Needs times to integrate together. Started off a little sweet on the palate and a little bit of heat. Very young and was thinking Cabernet Sauvignon or Cab Blend. Definitely needs time to integrate and will be delicious then.
Red
2007 Bird in Hand Shiraz Nest Egg Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
93 points
Blind tasting, wine number 4, bag number 3. Bright red and clear. Love the nose, black olives, cherries and hummus. Moderate tannins (6.5/10), and moderate body. Nicely integrated between the size of the body and tannins, but would love to try this in a few years by then hopefully the little bit of heat wears off. Nice amount of dark fruits as well. Lingering and smooth finish. Our number three of the night.
Red
2012 Sarocka Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District
96 points
Blind tasting, wine number 5, bag number 5b. Decanted for 2 hours. Dark, deep and opaque ruby red. Nose had a lot of dark berries, and a ton of cassis. Slow attack then it hits hard. High tannins (8.5/10) and full bodied. Long lingering finish. Beautiful and voluptuous wine. Second time having this and I loved it. Cannot wait to buy the 2013 next year. My WOTN!
Red
2006 Rubissow Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder
95 points
Blind tasting, wine number 6, bag number 5a. Deep crimson. Tight to start with red fruits, chalk, and slight cassis. Moderate tannins (6.5/10) and moderate body. 9 years has done quite a few favors to this wine. Definitely can last a few more. Sand paper texture and lots of cassis in the palate. Long and lingering finish. My second favorite of the night!
Red
2013 Bevan Cellars Pinot Noir Rita's Crown Vineyard Sta. Rita Hills USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
92 points
Blind tasting, wine number 7, bag number 6. Mix between crimson and garnet red. Tight nose that was very sweet, like syrup and a little bacon. On the palate there was a lot of raisins, ethanol, very sweet and dried fruits. Definitely needed some more time to open up at least 4+ hours. Moderate body with moderate tannins (6.5/10). Could tell it was a pinot, and from our experience at the Pinot Noir Wine Club night we knew it had to be a Bevan Pinot.

Red
2000 Ventana Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Central Coast, Arroyo Seco
88 points
Blind tasting, wine number 8. Garnet red with brown edges. Nose started with a light barnyard and then moved onto mushrooms. Palate had a slightly sour bite to it. Low tannins (4.5/10) and low body. Very smooth, finish lingers like unripe strawberries. Odd texture. Might be over its peak.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2013 Mullineux Chenin Blanc Straw Wine South Africa, Coastal Region, Swartland
94 points
Dessert wine to finish off this nights event. Orange gold in color. Perfume, apricot, pear and light flowers on the nose. Smooth, silky and thick. Delicious wine, if you haven't tried it you need to.
