Classic Bollinger, quite bold, toasted nose with hints of menthol. Lovely and serious style.

Base wine must have been from '99 or 2000. Golden yellow colour. Iintense honey on the nose as well as brioche and butter. Meaty, with a sweet sensation on the finish. Very developped, few bubbles. An excellent showing, but probably even more mature than I expected it to be.

2002 Bollinger Champagne Millésime Brut 007 James Bond France, Champagne

This was a regular GA 2002 with a special label and a fancy box.
Green apple, hints of dried apple and apple compote, lightly buttered toast, quite fresh and creamy. Excellent showing but I preferred R.D. to the regular GA this time.

Seriously good, the best "young" champagne in this Bollinger evening.
Very meaty, somewhat oaky nose as well as rye bread, toasty aromas and lemon. Clean, long taste, you can feel that it has a lower dosage than a GA. An overall fresher, more joyfull feeling to this champagne.

From magnum.
Nose initially closed, takes time to open up. Bright yellow colour. Pleasantly warm nose of toffee, caramel, biscuit, hint of mushrooms. Very long finish. Classy, it was compared to Pierce Brosnan as a James Bond - both charm and power.

1989 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année France, Champagne

From magnum.
I am not sure how to describe it, as it had all the typical best qualities of a mature champagne and it had them in spades, alas I am not a poet.
Brioche, toast, caramel, excellent balance and lenght, salty feel on the palate. Once it is in the glass, you just marvel at it silently, a sign of an outstanding wine. Unforgettable showing, my WOTN. It was compared to Sean Connery as a James Bond - charm above all else.

1979 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année France, Champagne

Very concentrated, salty nose. Opens up with air and develops classic notes of toffee and overall mature but lively champagne. Palate less concentrated than the nose, soft texture.

N.V. Bollinger Champagne Extra Quality Very Dry France, Champagne

Bottle from 50s-60s.
Very clean, dark yellow-orange colour. Still some bubbles, but they disappear soon. Very caramel heavy nose, also cumin and spices. A bit tart on the palate. Actually past its peak, but very interesting to see this bottle in the context of both younger and older Bollingers of this evening.

2009 Bollinger Champagne Millésime Brut 007 James Bond France, Champagne

Fresh, appley nose, creamy texture. Young and lively, gastronomic. Very good raw materials, will age well. On this evening to me it wasn't as interesting as some older bottles.

From a 375ml bottle. Risky purchase but it paid off!
Amber, slightly cloudy colour. Caramel, toffee, mushrooms, a bit heavy feeling, seems that it had rather high dosage, accidity still present and noticeable. Excellent given the age, format and context.

From a magnum. Vintage clearly seen on the cork. Cork came out with a smash and champagne had quite a lot of bubbles! Provenance and magnum format certainly helped.
Salty caramel, tinned peach, yellow honeyed apples and marcipane on the nose and palate. Perfect texture, deep and enticing taste. Autumnal feeling to it. So lively and interesting for a 62 y.o. champagne. Simply unbelievable and a testament to longevity of champagne.
