The Lynch Bages were decanted for 4.5 hours.

All wines scored blind.

Flight 1 (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
2006 Bertrand-Delespierre Champagne Premier Cru Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
94 points
This was a beautiful champagne - Nutty and truffle forest undergrowth on the nose - yeasty. Smooth and integrated on the palate with green apples and while dry, not a bitey acidic finish.

Very complex and integrated.
White
2012 Domaine Guerrin et Fils Pouilly-Fuissé La Maréchaude France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé
94 points
I do not normally enjoy white wine (Other than Sauternes and ice wine) but this was most enjoyable. Woody and nutty both on the nose and the palate. Beautifully in balance and smooth on the palate.

The acidity is so fine and delicate that it does not appear above the surface - it is integrated. That is the way I like a chardonnay.

Flight 2 (6 notes)

Red
2012 Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
87 points
Light red and thin color.

Green geranium and leather on the nose. This had been decanted for 4 hours. A light vegetal bitterness in the finish.
Red
2003 Arnaud Chopin & Fils Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
91 points
More acidity than the prior bottle (Corton). Dirty dark with pepper on the nose. Definitely vegetal. Also peppermint in the nose which was very interesting.
Red
2012 Domaine Philippe Charlopin Marsannay En Montchenevoy France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
85 points
Seemed to score low on the score sheet - not sure it deserved this low a score.

This was decanted for 14 hours. Moderately red with a classic geranium nose. Clean sawdust on the nose with burnt electricity.

Light velvet mid palate. I would put it closer to 88.
Red
2011 Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Le Corton France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
84 points
6/10 and lots of asparagus on the nose
Red
2008 Domaine Heresztyn/Heresztyn-Mazzini Clos St. Denis France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru
82 points
Very light nose and neutral flavor and nose by comparison with all the others in the blind tasting. Higher tannins at 7/10.
Red
2009 Domaine des Chezeaux Griotte-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru
80 points
Strawberry nose and similar to the prior bottles nose. Lighter tannins at 6.5

Flight 3 (3 notes)

Red
2002 Château Lynch-Bages France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
90 points
Chalky nose (very different from the other 2 in the vertical flight)

Lighter than the other two and leaner too. Not great for me. Light fruit on the nose.
Red
2006 Château Lynch-Bages France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
91 points
Somewhat plain and still young. I don't think this has yet integrated fully. The acidity is showing and silkiness is not yet there.

Mushrooms and a clean forest floor on the nose - Good strong tannins (8/10) and definitely the best of the LB tonight. This actually appeared to be the youngest and has many more years of life in it. Very youthful.

Full bodied and rich and silky with a hint of fruit in the main body. Mint came through at the end of the palate.

Flight 4 (1 note)

Red
2003 Harlan Estate The Maiden USA, California, Napa Valley
