Flight 1 (7 notes)

Red
1990 Tenuta Fanti Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Perfumed, floral nose with some barnyard, red fruit, and wonderful secondary notes pouring from the glass. Fresh red sweet/tart cherries on the palate, spicy, still some structure. Very good. My 1/7, group's 3/7. (Tasted blind)
Red
1990 Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
Aged nose with some floral, barnyard notes though musty and less exhuberant than (A). Chewy, tart red cherry on the palate. Musty, lacks freshness, and there's an off, sour note. Went downhill in the glass. My 5/7, group's 6/7. (Tasted blind)
Red
1990 Machiavelli Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
Funky nose with soy, beef broth. Musty and more advanced than (A) or (B). Chewy, with good acid and some interest but for me this is OTH. With time, soy/mushroom nose becomes overwhelming. My 4/7, group's 5/7. (Tasted blind)
Red
1990 Castello dei Rampolla Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
Harsh, medicinal note on nose. Nice mouthfeel with snappy sour cherry and good acid. Still some tannins, but more resolved than (A). With time, the nose clears up and gains a sweet note and the palate grows more savory and herbal. Long finish. One of my favorites here. My 3/7, group's 2/7. (Tasted blind)
Red
1990 Castello di Gabbiano Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
Enchanting nose. Red fruit, spice, some tartaric notes. Nice balance. Unfortunately this grew tired rather quickly in the glass, adding mushroom and off flavors. My 6/7, group's 4/7. (Tasted blind)
Red
1990 Capanna Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Some VA, funk on nose, with faint red fruits, earth/mineral. A powdery, bright red fruit note. Opened up nicely in the glass, revealing blood iron, beef, dried herbs, with a fine finish. Better sense of freshness than most wines here. Nice structure. My 2/7, group's 1/7. (Tasted blind)
Red
1990 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Vigna di Pianrosso Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
flawed
Mold. Socks. Corked. Damned shame. My & group's 7/7.
