Introduction

Every participant had to bring a wine of the theme. We did not know which wines were brought by the others. All wines were tasted blind, also without knowing when the wine you brought was poured.

Flight 1 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Cave de Genouilly Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc de Blancs France, Burgundy, Crémant de Bourgogne
86 points
No formal notes, but this is an acceptable bubble with ok citrus.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

Red
1998 Domaine Le Clos des Cazaux Vacqueyras Cuvée des Templiers France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Vacqueyras
At first a bit tea in the bouquet. Autumn forest, chocolate and mushrooms in the bouquet as well as the taste. Past its prime, but if you like tertiary and very mature wines, it still offers pleasure. No score in my case.
Red
1998 Château Haut-Gleon Grenache Vallée du Paradis France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Vallée du Paradis
90 points
Youthful color; dark ruby. Youthful bouquet as well with dark berry fruits, laurel and lavender. Blackberries and dark cherries on the palate together with a firm amount of acidity and bitterness. Incredible this is a more than 12 years old Grenache. Impressive!

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
1999 Domaine Viret Côtes du Rhône Villages Saint-Maurice-sur-Eygues Les Colonnades France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages Saint-Maurice-sur-Eygues
flawed
Extremely corked
Red
1999 Domaine du Colombier Hermitage France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
88 points
Some tea and earthy impressions in the bouquet. On the palate there are still some black cherries and blackberries. Pleasant acidity and bitterness. At the end of its maturity stage. Drink within the next 2 years.

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Red
2001 Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
93 points
Beautiful and expressive bouquet with a lot of garrigue/herbes and spices and also some flint stone. Juicy start with a lot of substance and some pleasant sweetness. Soft tannin and bitterness, but still offering a bite. In a beautiful drinking stage! Why wait any longer?
Red
2001 Domaine Santa Duc Gigondas Prestige des Hautes Garrigues France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
91 points
Intriguing bouquet; like walking into a store in India loaded with all sorts of spices. Beautiful fruit juice on the palate with also spices good bitterness and acidity and a firm body. Beautifully soft tannin still offering a bite. Half way maturity stage and a real beauty now. Will stay on this level for some years.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Red
2005 Les Vins de Vienne Côte-Rôtie Les Essartailles France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
87 points
Popped and poured the bouquet is elegant, but somewhat locked. There are some red fruits. On the palate good juice. Good cherries, a little pleasant sweetness and good acidity. Medium to full bodied. Early maturity now. Probably at its peak two years from now and then for several years more. Very good wine.
Red
2005 Domaine Viret Côtes du Rhône Villages Saint-Maurice-sur-Eygues Les Colonnades France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages Saint-Maurice-sur-Eygues
88 points
Beautiful spicy bouquet, elegant and the first signs of maturity. On the palate a lot of tastes; good fruits, spices etc. Soft tannin with still a good bite. Quite a lot of sweetness. Already a pleasure when decanted. Will probably show even better from 2013 onwards. 88+

Flight 6 (2 notes)

Red
2006 Sélectionné par Laurence Féraud Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
90 points
Pleasant and spicy bouquet. Slightly sweet start. Very juicy with strawberries and ripe raspberries, but also a pleasant and firm bite of the tannin in the finish. Really beautiful already and with a future of at least another 3 years.
Red
2006 M. Chapoutier Crozes-Hermitage Les Meysonniers France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage
87 points
As my note of 2010. The wine seemed to be a little more creamy now, but the tannin is still a bit harsh. Lacks a bit in refinement, although when given enough airtime the wine became more friendly.

Flight 7 (3 notes)

Red
2006 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
90 points
Light colored and a modest, somewhat withhold bouquet. Very fruity with good cherries. Good spiciness as well. The tannin seems to be a little bit green. Although an excellent wine, I am not extremely impressed at the moment. Give it another 2 - 4 years of cellaring. I hope it will show better by then.
Red
2006 Franck Balthazar Cornas Chaillot France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
88 points
Very dark red. A little bit of candy fruit in the bouquet. A mouth full of wine. Mostly good cherries. Classical style with a lot of firm tannin and acidity and bitterness. Lacks refinement at the moment, but the structure is ok. Would like to try this again 4 - 5 years from now. For the moment 88, but there is potential for more when the tannin softens.

2006 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
89 points
Creamy, butter, a bit yoghurt in the bouquet as well as the taste, but these impressions are not disturbing. Much more dominating is the pleasant fruit juice with a hint of sweetness, good acidity and bitterness. Also some garrigue. A very pleasant, but not extremely exclusive wine. Will probably improve a bit over the next few years.

Flight 8 (2 notes)

Red
2007 Domaine Barge St. Joseph Clos des Martinets France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph
90 points
Beautiful bouquet. Complex with spices and dark fruits and rustic. On the palate also rustic impressions. Animals. Earthy. Next try around 2014.
Red
2007 Domaine Le Clos des Cazaux Vacqueyras Cuvée des Templiers France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Vacqueyras
87 points
Very juicy. A lot of cherries. Nice. Not really exclusive. Needs a few more years in the bottle perhaps. For now 87.

Flight 9 (2 notes)

Red
2007 Domaine Bressy Masson Rasteau Cuvée Paul Emile France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Rasteau
89 points
Youthful bouquet with some spiciness, laurel and black as well as red fruits. Same on the palate. Good acidity and bitterness and still open. Well composed wine with a long finish.
Red
2009 Domaine Bressy Masson Rasteau Cuvée Paul Emile France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Rasteau

At first a bit strawberry yoghurt and cream in the bouquet beside the cherries and flowers. On the palate good juice with ripe blackberries and blueberries. Firm amount of sweetness and pleasant fresh acidity. Long finish. Very well made wine. 89+

Flight 10 (3 notes)

Red
2007 Domaine de Beaurenard (Paul Coulon et Fils) Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
90 points
Expressive bouquet of ripe fruits and also good herbs and spices. Same in the taste. A lovely and friendly wine with ripe and soft tannin and a little sweetness. Good complexity as well. Beautiful and open now and can certainly last another 5 - 7+ years
Red
2007 Ferraton Père & Fils Cornas Les Grands Muriers France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
87 points
Elegant and nice bouquet with some spiciness. On the palate also spices, ok acidity and a little bitterness in the finish. Certainly a very good wine although I am not extremely impressed. Needs a few more years of course.
Red
2007 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

A very juicy and sweet start. Black cherries and other red and black forest fruits. Good herbs and spices and a nice dose of oak. Soft tannin. A lot of everything. Still very open.
