White
1997 Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste. Hune France, Alsace
93 points
Still very youthful at 7 years of age, initially quite closed even. Tightly wound, with exemplary style and finesse. The nose opens up in the glass and develops petrol, spices, lovely minerality and finely-etched Riesling acidity, but is keeping is depths hidden; very elegant, perfect harmony, is rounding out but retains its lightness of touch owing to fabulous acidity, superbly balanced, fresh as a mountain stream; very good length, aromatically complex, juicy and rich.
Red
1995 Sterling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain Ranch Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Diamond Mountain
92 points
Masterfully crafted, very powerful style, immensely concentrated. Needs a little time in the decanter to prevent the oak from dominating on the nose and then becomes a stunning syphony of oak, blackcurrant and spices, deep and rich; similar on the palate, juicy and satisfying, tannins are still slightly hard; convincing finish, excellent length. Very Napa.
Red - Fortified
1997 Poças Porto Late Bottled Vintage Portugal, Douro, Porto
90 points
Rich saturated purple; plums, cinnamon, clove, chocolate, semi-sweet, deep, good lovely concentration, good weight, ripe tannins, slightly hard; good length, complete, lovely sweet fruit. Drink now - 2010+.
