Tasted June 28, 2016 by Burgundy Al with 721 views

Flight 1 - Remoissenet Père et Fils (11 notes)

Tasting with Remoissenet's General Manager, Bernard Repolt. Mt first visit, and I really enjoyed what we tasted.

White
2015 Remoissenet Père et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Cras France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Barrel tasting a the domaine. Floral with very ripe fruit, but then refreshed with a good burst of energy from middle forward for textural charm. Good+ for its level.
White
2015 Remoissenet Père et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs-Gain France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine from a neutral barrel (other barrel is new). Ripe apple with good acidity for the vintage and some mineral hints. Also good+ for its level.
White
2015 Remoissenet Père et Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine, from a new barrel (other barrel is neutral). Fleshy and seemingly quite opulent with a bit of protruding new oak for right now. but with good concentration so I am optimistic for the wine once assembled.
White
2015 Remoissenet Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine from a neutral barrel. Plot is east facing on the Pernand side of the hill. Powerful with good concentration on nose and palate. Very ripe start, minerally finish I enjoy. Good length, VG potential.
White
2015 Remoissenet Père et Fils Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. From the Puligny side of Batard. Lots of baby fat and ripe apple. Slightly sweet spice. Overall very appealing already now, but with the density and elegance to age. By far my favorite of the 5 whites tasted. VG potential for its level.
Red
2015 Remoissenet Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Marconnets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Juicy red fruit aromas with sweet spice and a lush, enticing character. Powerful red and black cherry flavors with very good density for its level, with lots of everything good here. Accessible already, VG+ potential for its level.
Red
2015 Remoissenet Père et Fils Nuits St. Georges France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
Barrel tasting at the domaine. From Lavieres. Brings NSG meatiness and structure with Vosne red fruit and spice. VG for its level. I don't know where this sells, but expect it might be a good value wine.
Red
2015 Remoissenet Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Black fruit on nose and palate, with some Boeuf Bourgignon spice. Very good, very dense 1er Cru. Probably my favorite wine of the tasting for its level.
Red
2015 Remoissenet Père et Fils Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. From mid-slope, below Maupertui. Domaine holding as of a few years ago. Charming red fruit with wonderful spice aromas. Red and black flavors, less pronounced spice, firm finish. VG potential.
Red
2015 Remoissenet Père et Fils Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine, from a new oak barrel, which will represent 60% of the assembled wine. Both black and red fruit with good spice, new oak seemingly already fully absorbed. Lush start, more firm middle to finish. Very good potential.
Red
2015 Remoissenet Père et Fils Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Black plum and cherry with roast meat aromas. Same fruit flavors come across as very powerful while lush. An alluring finish that shows slightly sweet spice and lots of that same ripe fruit. Excellent potential.

Flight 2 - Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils (21 notes)

Tasting with Alex Moreau.

White
2014 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chardonnay Bourgogne Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Tasting at the domaine. Lemon and apple throughout, some lemon peel finish. Well balanced, good length, certainly an excellent value wine.
White
2014 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
90 points
Tasting at the domaine. Cross-section of ripe apple with some lemon curd and lemon peel. Very bright, long and well textured for its level. Excellent value wine.
White
2014 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
91 points
Tasting at the domaine. Wonderful floral start. Comes across as slightly leaner vs Chassagne AC on nose and palate with crisp texturally-driven middle and finish with good minerality. Precise and linear.
White
2014 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
91 points
Tasting at the domaine. Riper vs Vergers and more opulent textures. Very nice harmony of fruit, spice, acid and minerality. Perhaps slightly less precise, but this is a more forward and friendly wine everybody will easily enjoy.
White
2014 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
91 points
Tasting at the domaine. Intriguing nose shows a broad cross-section of fruit, including peach, ripe apple, lemon, but also slightly reticent most of the way through. Intense minerality middle through finish, this is the 1er Cru that really comes across as needing the most time in the cellar to show its full potential.
White
2014 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
Tasting at the domaine. Apple and pear with baby fat to start. More minerality and complexity on palate with a lean, energetic finish I truly enjoy.
White
2014 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grandes Ruchottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Delicately floral start. Slightly backward start, but showcasing very powerful and concentrated fruit. Very dense, very long finish. 93-94 point potential here.
White
2014 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Tasting at the domaine. From a parcel just below Montrachet. Ripe and almost flamboyant aromatic start with floral notes, tropical hints. Similar flavors with lots of baby fat with great concentration. Seems more open and accessible vs Grandes Ruchottes, but there is clearly lots of background structure that seems just offstage at present. 93-94 point potential.
White
2014 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chevalier-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Spice, flowers, mint, ripe apple and quince aromas and comparable flavors. Superbly dense and fresh. 95-96 point potential.
Red
2014 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Bourgogne France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Tasting a the domaine. Good fruit, slight rugged textures for right now. Ok for its level.
Red
2014 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
Tasting at the domaine. a clear step up in quality from Bourgogne, still a bit rustic but fresher fruit with better concentration. Probably better in another year or two.
Red
2014 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot La Cardeuse Rouge France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Red fruit throughout with floral notes and charming spice. 40% whole cluster comes through but while maintaining restraint. Give this some time in the cellar to soften a little more, but the raw materials here are very good, 2020 forward. My favorite of the 2014 reds tasted.
Red
2014 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Volnay 1er Cru Santenots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. 50% whole cluster. Red and black cherry with floral and spice, so coming across as very Volnay. Good concentration, slightly firm for now, give to 2020 for tannins to also soften.
White
2015 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Apple and peach with sweet spice. Luxurious for Villages level, this is ripe and fat with very good density that I'd have thought 1er Cru if tasted blind.
White
2015 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. slightly reductive nose. Apple, lemon with a fruit-driven and forward character. Easy to enjoy already. Probably best young.
White
2015 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Clearly riper than the 2014 tasted earlier, particularly to start. More classic middle-to-finish with some lemon and good energy emerging.
White
2015 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St. Jean France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Long-term metayage agreement that started a year ago, vineyard mostly replanted so 2015 is just the 4th (?) leaf. Precocious and fleshy with moderate weight. Should be a very good early drinking 1er Cru, and e wine everybody will enjoy.
White
2015 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Another recent addition to the Moreau lineup via swap. Very floral nose with ripe apple on nose and palate with very good concentration. Highlight here is the surprisingly (for a Caillerets) the flavors over the textures.
White
2015 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grandes Ruchottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. slightly reductiv start. Again very ripe flavors, but clearly the most concentration of the 1er Cru lineup with rockstar length. Nicely finessed. 91-94 point potential here.
White
2015 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Ripe and concentration with wonderful spice. A rare 2015 white I might enjoy more than its 2014 counterpart. Excellent potential here.
White
2015 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chevalier-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Just completed alcoholic fermentation in May and just now close to completing ML. tough to assess, but there is really intense concentration here.

Flight 3 - La Pousse d'Or (11 notes)

Red
2015 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Pousse d'Or is undertaking a fascinating experiment here, vinifying Caillerets in both traditional fermentation tanks and amphora, and then completing the elevage in both barrels and amphora. It is undecided if they will produce one or two cuvees. We tasted five different versions of the wine in its development.

1. Traditional oak fermentation tank and then elevage in a new oak barrel. Black fruit with lots of spice and a slightly jammy character. Lots of power and also lots of tannins from both fruit and oak. Fun, just presently showing the least unique Volnay character to me.
2. Traditional oak fermentation tank and elevage in a 1 year old oak barrel. Still mostly black fruit but with red hints and less overt spice. Much more floral, and much more Volnay. I think this was the favorite of most of the group.
3. Traditional oak fermentation tank and 2 yo oak barrel. Equal amounts of black and red cherry with great purity and the most elegant overall spice. Ever-so-slightly drying finish.
4. Traditional oak fermentation tank and elevage in clay amphora. The expectation is greater micro-oxygenation. Mostly black cherry with great spice. Probably my favorite of the 5 versions, with what I found to be the greatest fruit purity and expression of Volnay at this early stage.
5. Clay amphora fermentation with elevage back in clay amphora, with some additional wine from the other fermentation added to fill the amphora. Perhaps the most fruit driven and even the most complete/ finished wine at present, but seemingly less concentration. No SO2 added here yet.

I don't think I will know exactly what I learned from this fascinating tasting for several years, so look forward to re-tasting at release and hearing their decision re 1 vs 2 bottlings.

Red
2015 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Bousse d'Or France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine from 1 yo barrel. Floral and spice driven with red and black berries. Ripe start, charming textures middle forward. Very good+ potential for its level.
Red
2015 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. 1 yo barrel. Juicier fruit with more power vs Bousse d'Or. Slightly less spice and nuanced textures Also VG+ potential for its level.
Red
2015 La Pousse d'Or Pommard 1er Cru Les Jarollieres France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine from once used barrel. Elegant red and black cherry aormas. Same on palate with background spice. Middle forward show more pronounced tannins and the heft I would associate with Pommard, but without losing brightness or energy. Very good for its level.
Red
2015 La Pousse d'Or Corton-Clos du Roi France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine from 1 yo barrel. Dense black cherry and plum aromas and flavors. Good concentration, moderate length. Needs more time than the 1ers tasted to reach its balance.
Red
2015 La Pousse d'Or Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Feusselottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine from 1 yo barrel. Excellent red cherry, berry aromas with savory spice. Flavors are less bright, slightly more ripe, showing red and black berries. Great length with excellent concentration and a refreshing, energetic finish. I like this a lot, 92-94 point potential.
Red
2015 La Pousse d'Or Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Groseilles France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Certainly good but far less exciting for me vs Feusselottes just tasted. Less concentration and weight here, slightly lighter style for now, with more firm structure. This will take more time in the cellar.
Red
2015 La Pousse d'Or Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domiane from 1yo barrel. Spice and flora charm to start with lots of red fruit. Very impressive concentration and balance at this stage, with the structure and weight to age into a beauty. 93-94 point potential.
Red
2015 La Pousse d'Or Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Black and red cherry with intense concentration on nose and palate. Slightly backward, certainly less near-term pleasure vs either Feusselottes or Charmes, but this still seems to be impeccably balanced with a very long finish. Less clarity for me around its potential, so there is a wide 91-95 point range here.
Red
2015 La Pousse d'Or Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Starts with hefty black and red cherry. More black plum and cherry flavors for now. Long and dense with rather silky tannins for Bonnes Mares. Less nuance vs the top Chambolle 1ers just tasted, but more concentrated and density.
Red
2015 La Pousse d'Or Clos de la Roche France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Sensational aromatic start with red cherry, berry, baking spice, summer flowers in a perfumed combination. Palate starts open and lush, firms up toward long, meaty fiish. Probably a slight step up from the Bonnes Mares, 94-96 point potential.

Flight 4 - Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair (16 notes)

Tasting with Louis-Michel Liger-Belair.

White
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Grandes Vignes Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Ripe orchard fruit, moderate weight in an elegant combination with a minerally textured finish. No SO2 added yet.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Finishing ML. From 11 parcels across many parts of the village. Slightly reductive from barrel today. Red and black cherry throughout, most assertive on palate. Wonderful and unmistakable Vosne spice. Good density for its level, certainly VG potential.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée La Colombiere France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Black and red cherry aromas with sweet spice. More red fruit flavors with bigger spice, elegant textures. Long finish with more concentration than usual for Colombiere in 2015. VG+ potential.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Floral start with dense fruit and good concentration. Perhaps less spice and nuance today than Colombiere, but this has greater density, structure and will probably provide greater long-term excitement.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. 15% whole cluster. Perfumed aromatic start with all red cherry and berry. Prototypical Vosne nose is very engaging. Similar flavors, slightly less forward but very long, finishing with a very good mineral note. Excellent potential for its level.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Parcel is located in the small valley near the cemetery, close to Grivot and Confuron. Most ripe of the wines so fat, with luscious black and red fruit and plenty of Asian five spice as well as balancing structure. Excellent as well, one slight step up over the Chaumes just tasted.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Cras France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Black fruit throughout with Vosne styled spice and moderate weight but a long finish. I didn't realize that wine from Cras is allowed to be called Boudots, which I imagine is why there is so much Boudots and so little Cras given their relative sizes.

Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petits Monts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Intense black fruit aromas with an engaging spicebox. Red and black fruit flavors, equally well spice. Expanding from middle to finish, with lots of power. Superb potential here, I prefer this over Reignots, which is surprising.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Barrel tasting a the domaine. Bright and powerful red fruit with sexy, sweet spice. Textural masterpiece, excellent overall. I'm not sure why I'm writing this note because this wine is not even commercially released.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Grandes Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Faint hints of malo/ reduction to start. Black and red fruit on nose and palate, coming across as probably the most backward (only backward?) wine in the lineup. Elegant textures and character for its terroir, with moderate weight and depth.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Faint trace of malo/ reduction here as well. Red and black fruit with beautiful spice throughout. An elegant Vosne personified, I find this more charming than Petits Monts, even if not quite as powerful or concentrated. Certainly has VG+ potential for its level.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at the domiane. First vintage Comte Liger-Belair is producing this wine under this new contract. From mid-slope on the Vosne side, from an organic grower. Red and black cherry with subtle spice and overall nicely finessed. Very good balance. very good overall potential.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Red and black cherry throughout with subtle spice aromas, more robust spice flavors. Elegant textural start, denser and more concentrated finish comes across as both powerful and weightless at the same time. An amazing, great wine in the making.

Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair La Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Romanée Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Faint hints today of malo/ reduction. Blacker fruit, sweeter spice on nose and palate. Dense and ultra concentrated, while alluring because of the graceful supporting structure. Blockbuster in the making here, but this will require a long time int he cellar to really show its full potential.
Red
2007 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
92 points
Tasted at the domaine. Popped-and-poured, served to us blind. Ripe red fruit throughout that is starting to evolve. Moderate weight and concentration. Sweet, forward and charming now, with good potential as it unfolds over the next decade. I correctly identified the vintage, but thought it from a different Vosne 1er Cru.

2006 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
94 points
Tasted at the domaine. Popped-and-poured and served blind. Ripe red cherry and berry aromas and flavors, but very balanced. Long textured finish. I thought this Petits Monts (close) but was way off on the vintage (thinking 2010). This is a rockstar 2006.
