Flight 1 (42 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Cave de Lugny Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc de Blancs France, Burgundy, Crémant de Bourgogne
87 points
Lemon, spice and slate. Good flavour profile, medium wight with a little better length than expected. Not super precise, but nice enough.
White - Sparkling
2010 Pyramid Valley Riesling The Body Electric New Zealand, South Island, Canterbury, Waipara
88 points
Honey, orange peel, musk and herb. Palate is medium length and finishes dry after a touch of sugar through the mid-palate.
White
2009 Chambers Rosewood Roussanne Australia, Victoria, North East, Rutherglen
88 points
Lemon drops, wheat and toast. Toasty flavour on the palate, plenty of texture with some viscosity from the fruit. Decent length.
White
2012 Wolfberger Riesling Eichberg France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru
87 points
Apricot, spice, lime and plenty of peach. Nice medium bodied flavours, tastes ripe but dry finishing. Not really complex but decent.
White
2013 Mount Horrocks Riesling Watervale Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Watervale
91 points
Floral, lime, spice and peaches. Good precision, with the fruit in the background but nicely poised and making sure the wine isn't all acid. Good length. Will develop well.
White
2007 Forest Hill Vineyard Riesling Block 1 Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Mount Barker
88 points
Musk, florals and grapefruit. Strong acid presence, nice and precise, although a little more depth would be better.
White
2007 Frankland Estate Chardonnay Isolation Ridge Vineyard Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Frankland River
89 points
Melon, lemon and peaches. Medium intensity on the palate, there is some roundness to it already. I like the balance of acid and fruit. Drinking well now and over the next 4-5 years.
White
2005 Helm Riesling Classic Dry Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
91 points
Expressive nose - floral, orange peel, toast and sea spray. The balance on this is excellent, pure fruit and good length. My favourite of the 2005 Canberra flight.

White
2005 Leo Buring Riesling Leonay Eden Valley Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley
90 points
Lime, orange, lemon and slate - pretty classic nose. Very good purity and length, this screams potential but also isn't ready. Good texture and length.
White
2005 Mount Majura Riesling Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
89 points
Lemon, spice and grapefruit. Good acid and length, some youthful and fresh fruit flavours. Simple but has potential to improve over the coming years - another 3-4 years might be nice.
White
2005 Clonakilla Riesling Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
90 points
Much better than an advanced bottle a few years back. Floral, pine, lime and mineral. Good flavour persistence, there is plenty of spice throughout and a fine line. Starting to head towards its peak and it should reach it within the next 4-5 years.
White
2005 Jeir Creek Riesling Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
88 points
Kerosene, floral notes and toast. Some phenolic elements on the palate, there is plenty of development here. Not complex but drinking well enough. Drink now.
White
1999 The Wilson Vineyard Riesling The Gallery Series Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Polish Hill River
85 points
Salted caramel, fairy floss and some nutty notes. The same caramel note on the palate. Past its best.
White
2006 The Wilson Vineyard Riesling Polish Hill River Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Polish Hill River
90 points
Toast, orange peel and smoke. Medium aged feeling, good texture and the acidity is softening out. In a good spot and will develop for another couple of years as well.
White
2013 The Wilson Vineyard Riesling Polish Hill River Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Polish Hill River
90 points
Classic young Riesling nose - musk, lime, lemon and white florals. Good flavour intensity, has some depth behind it. Like the poise and potential of this.
White
2004 Framingham Dry Riesling New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
90 points
Orange, straw, lemon candy and spice. Good acidity, has some texture giving it interest and also some depth. In a really good place to be drunk now to the next 5 years.
White
2004 Jim Barry Riesling The Florita Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Clare Valley
85 points
Quite shy on the nose - some orange and floral notes. Acidity sticks out a bit on the palate, this bottle seemed to be out of balance. A shame as the bottle I tried in 2012 was very nice.
White
2005 Tertini Wines Riesling Australia, New South Wales, South Coast, Southern Highlands
88 points
Sage and basil herb notes, mint and butterscotch. Tangy acidity, with some roundness to the fruit giving it a sweet and sour element. Certainly unusual but interesting if nothing else.
White
2006 Pikes Riesling Reserve The Merle Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Clare Valley
92 points
Lime, spice, floral notes and pear - quite open and lifted. Settling down very nicely on the palate, this has good length and balance. Really enjoyed this.
White
2002 Pikes Riesling Reserve Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Clare Valley
flawed
Old and bitter.
White
2002 Grosset Riesling Watervale Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Watervale
92 points
Floral, pear, toast and flint. Ticking along beautifully, showing very good balance and persistence. Still travelling well, another 4-5 years should put it in a great spot.
White
1996 Rockford Riesling Hand Picked Eden Valley Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley
88 points
Orange, honey, peach and florals. In much better shape than the last bottle, this has medium intensity with the fruit still asserting its presence. Drink now for sure.
White
1997 Henschke Riesling Julius Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley
flawed
This bottle was past its drinkable window.
White
1999 Rockford Riesling Hand Picked Eden Valley Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley
flawed
Too old.
White
1985 Schloss Johannisberg Riesling Grünlack Spätlese Trocken Germany, Rheingau
91 points
Smoky, floral, mandarin and cinnamon. Delicate and well balanced, plenty of acidity and a lot of texture. Very good drinking.
White - Off-dry
2013 Weiser-Künstler Enkircher Ellergrub Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
92 points
Grapefruit and pineapple with some smoke and lemon. Acid pushes through against the ripe but pure fruit - acid seems very good for 2013. Good length and style.

White - Off-dry
2007 Schmitges Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese * Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
90 points
Ginger and orange, mandarin and roses. Good acid balance, the palate richness is just right and the wine tastes quite delicious. Enjoyable stuff.
Red
2002 Mount Majura Pinot Noir Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
88 points
Smoke, charcoal, rhubarb and meat. Stalky on the palate, there is some light red fruit and the acid still gives it a spine. Hasn't really taken on a great deal of complexity, but I like it all the same.
Red
N.V. Panevino Delirante Nelle Peggio Lotto N. R212 Vino da Tavola Italy, Sardinia, Vino da Tavola
87 points
Stalk, lifted violets, chocolate and some salami. Earthy and savoury palate, with good interest and balance. Doesn't quite feel like it is in harmony, but interesting for a brief encounter.
Red
2012 Béatrice et Pascal Lambert Chinon Les Terrasses France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon
87 points
Tinged by stalks, plum and peppery spice. Lacks the palate intensity and depth to really inspire. Decent but I don't feel the need to revisit.
Red
2008 Gomersal GSM Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
89 points
Ash, char, cherry and blackcurrant. Bold and sweet fruit profile on the palate, there is interesting texture to go along with the punch. Very good.
Red
1995 Mount Langi Ghiran Langi Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Australia, Victoria, Western Victoria, Grampians
flawed
Corked.
Red
1994 Ridge Zinfandel Paso Robles USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles
90 points
Brett, leather, earth, blood and some briar. Very savoury palate, there is some red fruit too but it is definitely in the background. The structure is holding well, but I feel like this needs to be consumed soon.
Red
2006 Torbreck Shiraz The Struie Australia, South Australia, Barossa
90 points
Blueberry, spice, cherry and blackcurrant. There is sweet but good tasting fruit power and the length is fine. Drinking well now and over the next couple of years.
Red
2010 Torzi Matthews Shiraz Frost Dodger Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley
89 points
Blind, only took a small pour but I liked it. Cherry, violet, pepper and plums. Seems to have good structure and balance, will keep aging well over the short-medium term, say 4-6 years.
Red
1977 Tahbilk Cabernet Sauvignon Australia, Victoria, Central Victoria, Nagambie Lakes
flawed
Corked.
Red
1975 Wyndham Estate Claret Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
flawed
Dead.
Red
1992 Lindeman's Shiraz - Cabernet Limestone Ridge Vineyard Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
84 points
Earth, oak, mint, herb and some VA. Fruit is a bit too broad given the structure of the wine. Punchy but not a wine that I enjoyed much on this encounter.
Red
2002 Charles Melton Nine Popes Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
90 points
Meat, cherry, blackcurrant and spice. The palate is quite heavy, there is spice throughout that helps pick it up. Drinking well now.
Red
2010 Pyramid Valley Pinot Noir Growers Collection Cowley Family Vineyard New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
90 points
Stalk, cherry, raspberry and spice. The palate is pretty restrained, there is some savoury spice and while there is a little bit of ripeness peaking through, it is not the driving character. Enjoyable.
Red - Fortified
1999 Chambers Rosewood Ruby Australia, Victoria, North East, Rutherglen
85 points
Alcohol and kirsch. Strong alcohol on the palate as well. Ok length. Not really my thing, although it was after quite a few other wines so I may have to revisit.
White - Fortified
N.V. Dandelion Vineyards Pedro Ximénez Legacy of the Barossa 30 Year Old Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
91 points
Ginger, caramel, honey and brown sugar. Good persistence and intensity. I like the sweetness next to the spirit. A nice way to finish a very long tasting.
