White - Sparkling
2002 Pol Roger Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill France, Champagne
95 points
Intense, concentrated, mineral, a tight fist of fruit, this is a splendid champagne, at the moment very restrained (still enjoyable); the expression seems more chardonnay than pinot to me, lots of brioche & citrus underneath, loving this.

Rosé - Sparkling
1999 Deutz Champagne Cuvée William Deutz Rosé France, Champagne
95 points
This is getting better and better, no signs of age and indeed a grand champagne; it is deep, dark and concentrated, very vinous; this is basicly a foodwine, much to powerful as an aperitif, but with chanterelles, oh yes...

Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Egly-Ouriet Champagne Grand Cru Brut Rosé France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
93 points
tasted vis-a-vis Cuvée William Deutz, this is lighter, som would say more elegant (I think it just loses out), very fresh indeed, no signs of age, very burgundian pinot jumping from the glass. A summer wine on a high, high level.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
2014 Faiveley Chevalier-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
93 points
Much too young, of course, but a rare treat; extremely concentrated, still marked by oak, a spice, masculin version of this vineyard (that was always more heavy than the opposite side) with a bunch of butter and exotic fruit in the background . Will benefit from 5+ years of cellaring
White
2005 Domaine Leflaive Meursault 1er Cru Sous le Dos d'Âne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
flawed
corked!

Flight 3 (5 notes)

Red
2003 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
95 points
still no signs af declining - and furthermore, no signs of the heated 2003; hail Mourvèdre. This showed at bit more like the real McCoy, a neuf close to the soil, barnyard, sweet Grenache, rustique, but elegant nonetheless. The length is impressive. Ib liked this one a lot, as did I...

2010 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands-Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
94 points
Initially the lightness of being, that is great Burgundy, shines through. Everyone loves it, the girls especially, i would have prefered to air it more (but it was a gift); with air, the depth arrived, some sous bois, the tight concentration was set a bit free. Great things to come, much, much to early to drink. The score is conservative.

2001 Henri Bonneau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve des Célestins France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
97 points
From magnum (bottle #72); very true to the style of the domaine and to the terroir of La Crau. This is a full neuf, garrigue, barnyard, Grenache galore, but also with the mineral elegance of the vintage 2001, that remains one of the most succesful of the last 25 years. Tasted over two days with no hints of any change what so ever, thank you, Ib, for bringing this...

2014 Sadie Family Soldaat South Africa, Olifants River, Citrusdal, Piekenierskloof
92 points
Ok, so I could not resist serving this blind for Ib, who had no clue - he certainly looked in southern Rhône, Rayas-land; the Grenache here is light on it's feet, it's juicy stuff indeed, sweetness galore, some spice, beautiful balance - it shall be interesting to follow this one

2005 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
97 points
Extremely concentrated, mineral, tight fisted with a core of black berries and cocoa. Great structure, great balance, a grand Bordeaux-wine - much too young. (but hard to resist)
