Predappio (FC)

Introduction

Hosted by historical wine producer in his XVIIIc. Villa (Villa i raggi) on the hills near Predappio.

17.5 Hectares with vines. Marl and Sandstone soils.
Winery's machinery is basic, resulting in a "real", less manipulated wine, subject to vintage changes.
We had a small vertical of Sangiovese Superiore Predappio Colmano (2015-2014-2013), and these changes were clear and enjoyable.

Actually a Superiore.
Vivid, intense ruby red, with purple rim.
A bit closed at nose: fruity: cherries. Light hints of sweet spices. Intense and complex. Some "dirty" notes (bottled just 3 weeks ago).
Intense, persistent- and fine at taste. Sharp entry with the young tannins, then widening with fruit. Good body. Average acidity.
Very young and correct, but will not become a 90.
5% Cab. Sauv.; 2015 had an hot summer, resulting in light acidity.

2014 Zanetti Protonotari Campi Sangiovese di Romagna Colmano di Predappio Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Sangiovese di Romagna

Less intense Ruby red.
At nose, less fruity and more floreal (violet!) and sweet vanilla notes.
At taste, spicy and fruity entry, with an integrated tannin, yet a bit dusty.
Lacking a bit in body and structure, but very nice to drink.
2014 vintage was very rainy, with difficulties to get the right ripeness.

Intense ruby red.
Elegant, rich nose of ripe red fruits and mild spices (Tobacco).
Dry and velvety in mouth. Tannins perfectly integrated and smooth.
Smooth entry, prolonging on fruit and a good acidity. Ending on a light vegetal note. Very good vintage.

Good vintage, hot and dry.
Dark ruby red, vivid and consistent.
Rich, intense nose of cooked red fruits, spices and tertiary notes: cooked plums and coffee, liquorice and cloves.
Smooth entry, alcoholic, with a sweet tannin also if a bit dusty.
Yet to evolve and get a better balance. Medium acidity and minerality.
Lacking some fruit, compared to Colmano.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Zanetti Protonotari Campi Albana Amabile di Villa i Raggi Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Vino da Tavola
78 points
Traditional sparkling wine, bottled with some residual sugar to consent its fermentation in bottle.
Crystalline golden yellow, soft foam, with fine and persistent perlage.
Complex at nose on notes of ripe, overripe yellow fruits: apricots jam and dattes. Some agrumes notes.
Off dry, very simple structure, with a nice sugar ending supported by a good acidity.

Closing

An enjoyable production, fully showing the art and job of the winemaker, without "chemical" distorsion.
