Not quite as aromatic as the Roederer Brut NV but still some floral notes. Flavors are more citrus imbued with tangy and acidic mouthfeel. Lemon with slight almond on the finish.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
2014 Sbragia Family Chardonnay Home Ranch USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley
88 points
Much more acidic than my recent notes on the 2012 or 13. This seems to lack balance. Probably could use some bottle time. Flavors of apricot and some unresolved creamy/ acidity mouth feel. Short finish
White
2014 Beringer Vineyards Chardonnay Private Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley
92 points
A go to Chardonnay which never seems to disappoint. More butter than the Sbragia Home Ranch, and a smooth and melancholy mouth feel. Simply one of the great Cali Chard's made for the money.

Flight 3 (5 notes)

Red
1995 Niebaum-Coppola Rubicon USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
90 points
A wonderfully aged blend. Dark red fruit with a dusty mouth feel which delivers mulberry, and some distant blackberry. Medium length finish dominated by sweet prunes.
Red
2003 Hughes Family Vineyards Zinfandel USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley
91 points
Let me re-iterate I LOVE OLDER WINE ! This is no exception as the fruit simply dances off my tongue. Velvety mouthfeel with utterly fully resolved tannin, and acidty. Dusty prune and cherry flavors dominate with a long finish.
Red
2005 Hughes Family Vineyards Syrah Savannah Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Mountain
92 points
A fabulous and well aged showing of a wine. Fully resolved tannin and acidity result in a bowl full of fruit flavors. Cherry start leads to some background notes including mushroom, forest floor with a sweet prune finsh. Fabulous showing.
Red
2012 Hewitt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
93 points
Lush and a fruit bomb among the many subtle and delicate wines tasted this day. Everyone loved it especially given the line up of much more complex wines.

Red
2012 Outpost Cabernet Sauvignon True Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain

Had the remainder of the bottle from previous night along with guests. All agreed that this was the WOTN. Day 2 reveals so many more flavor notes. Velvety smooth after 24 hours. Decant for 1 day prior to drinking.
