Flight 1 (6 notes)

Red
1998 Château Pavie France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
96 points
Pavie 1998 has further gained intensity. Dense, concentrated and rich on the palate with dark cherries, kirsch and iron notes. Lingering finish with well-integrated tannins (showing no sign of drying).
Red
1982 Château Montrose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
94 points
Fully mature and showing its Montrose breed. Iron, mineral and other typical Cabernet notes on the nose also game , old leather and earth. Again typical old-school and rustic Cabernet on the palate with a great lingering finish.
Red
2005 Clos Fourtet France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
94 points
Elegant and sensual, still in early stage of development. 'Ontbijtkoek' (Dutch spice-cake), chocolate dipped black cherries and lemon zest in the nose. Nice acidity and sweet balance. Classic and well-built wine.

Red
2005 Château Branon France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
This wine didn't impress me that much; one-dimensional. Possibly in a closed phase for now? Young, rich and powerful on the palate with Asian spices, black cherries, ripe dark fruits.
Red
2005 Château L'Eglise-Clinet France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
98 points
Extraordinary combination of power, elegance and delineation. Sweet dark fruit layers, earth, asphalt and spice-cake in the nose. Full-bodied on the intense and concentrated palate with an ever lingering finish. A great future ahead; most likely with a triple digit score by then.
Red
2005 Château La Mission Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
97 points
Intense and enormously rich but still in early stage. Black fruit and true-to-type Pessac nose with tobacco, dust and iron in the nose. Very powerful, smooth and silky on the palate, well-balanced and impeccably focused. 97 points for now but set to gain more in the coming decades.
