White - Sparkling

Flight 2 - Filet Mignon: So Fine in '59 (5 notes)

Red
1959 Château Margaux France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
94 points
Feminine, floral, light, red fruit.
Red
1959 Château Mouton Rothschild France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
99 points
A near perfect wine. Well structured, even at nearly 60 years old. Barnyard funk on the nose and palate. Hints of leather and chocolate too. Phenomenal wine. Held up well in the glass over time. Many years left in the bottle.
Red
1959 Château Léoville Las Cases France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
98 points
Red fruit with some barnyard funk. Dirt and earth flavors abound. A little dirty laundry if that doesn't totally turn you off.
Red
1959 Château Calon-Ségur France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
96 points
On the lighter side. Very dry.
Red
1959 Château Larrivet-Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
flawed
I think this one was corked unfortunately!

Flight 3 - Hanger Steak: That's So 80's (Part 1) (4 notes)

Red
1975 Château Le Puy Cuvée Emilien France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Francs Côtes de Bordeaux
90 points
A bizarre wine with an odd nose and slightly off taste. Very interesting (and apparently made in the centuries old tradition), but not in sync with my palate.
Red
1982 Château Léoville Las Cases France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
99 points
Spectacular. Perfectly balanced.

Red
1982 Château L'Evangile France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
92 points
This bottle may have been slightly off. Good wine but not quite the gem it should have been.
Red
1985 Château Léoville Barton France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
96 points
When we first PnP'd, I got overwhelming alcohol on the nose. Then it burned off and the wine aromatics came through. Super balanced on the palate. Classic, dry, great BDX. Lots of life left in this one. Could have used a short decant.

Flight 4 - Ribeye: That's So 80's (Part 2) (4 notes)

Red
1986 Château Le Puy Cuvée Emilien France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Francs Côtes de Bordeaux
91 points
Another odd Le Puy wine. But interesting. Short finish. Mostly red fruit. Not sure what to make of this one.
Red
1988 Château Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
98 points
Fantastic. Well balanced. Classic BDX structure and flavor.
Red
1989 Château Lynch-Bages France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
98 points
Wow. A near perfect wine. So well balanced.

Red
1990 Château Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
92 points
I think maybe something was off on our bottle. Good but definitely not mind blowing.

Flight 5 - Intermezzo Throwback (2 notes)

Red
1959 Château Beychevelle France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
91 points
Red
1961 Carruades de Lafite France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
92 points

Flight 6 - Bone Marrow Flan: As the World Sauternes (2 notes)

White - Sweet/Dessert
1970 Château d'Yquem France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
99 points
A seamlessly perfect pairing with a bone marrow flan (as if everyone can just whip that up).
White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Château Rieussec France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
94 points
Really wonderful stuff. A bit young still.
