Introduction

I only had the time to taste approximately half the wines, and took notes on just over 50% of those.

Flight 1 (31 notes)

Red
2014 Château de Chantegrive Graves France, Bordeaux, Graves
Tasting, brief note. Pleasant for early drinking with reasonable balance, but very simple.
Red
2014 Château Bouscaut France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Tasting, brief note. Forward black fruit with good balance and medium weight and length. Will drink well young.
Red
2014 Château Carbonnieux France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Tasting, brief note. Black fruit, firm tannins. Big and chewy, this has overall very good quality but is backward so needs time in the cellar. 89-90 point potential.
Red
2014 Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Tasting, brief note. Spice driven start with lots of black cherry and plum aromas and flavors with licorice and barnyard. Moderate weight with very good balance and length. One of my favorites of the day, certainly with 91-93 point potential.
Red
2014 Domaine de Chevalier France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Tasting, brief note. Lots of black fruit with very good concentration. Lots of tannins as well, resulting in a powerful wine, but brooding for now.

Red
2014 Château Pape Clément France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Tasting, brief note. Richer than most today, but less classic or Old World styled to me. Easy to enjoy, tough to really be excited here. Maybe in time....
White
2014 Château Pape Clément Blanc France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Tasting, brief note. Tropical fruit and melon, this retained enough balance and energy for me to enjoy. Preferred this over the red.
Red
2014 Château Canon France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Big, fat fruit with rounded textures and everything is very nice harmony. Moderate weight and length, but very good for medium term enjoyment, particularly for this vintage. 90-92 point potential.

Red
2014 Château Le Bon Pasteur France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Tasting, brief note. Black berries, liqueur and chocolate hints. Softer start, firmer finish. Good for its level.
Red
2014 Château La Cabanne France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Tasting, brief note. Soft and slightly simple but well balanced. This will be a good value to enjoy young. Good+ for its level.
Red
2014 Château Clinet France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Tasting, brief note. Big fat comes across as ripe and plump with sweet spice throughout. Big tannins in the background but evident and firm. This will require time in the cellar.

Red
2014 Château Gazin Pomerol France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Tasting, brief note. Black berries with espresso. Soft textures make me think this will drink well young, but there is also sneaky good structure lurking in the background. Very good for the vintage.
Red
2014 Château Durfort-Vivens France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Tasting, brief note. Starts with simple fruit, followed by a moderately firm finish and moderate length. Moderately interesting at best.
Red
2014 Château Giscours France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Tasting, brief note. Plum and black cherry with background spice. Very bright, very good balance. a highlight today, 90-92 point potential.
Red
2014 Château Kirwan France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Tasting, brief note. Array of black fruit and floral aromas that are very enjoyable now. Similar flavors with more spice. Firm finish will require cellar time to soften, but the raw materials are very good here.
Red
2014 Château Lascombes France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Tasting, brief note. Black plum and spice aromas with complex notes. Similar flavors and well textures. Moderate weight and length, but very good overall. 89-91 point potential for the medium-term.
Red
2014 Château Marquis de Terme France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Tasting, brief note. Lots of black fruit, but I found too firm for the quality and amount of fruit. Certainly better to cellar than drink young.
Red
2014 Château Rauzan-Ségla France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Tasting, brief note. A highlight of the day. Plum and cherry with rich character and spice.lanced already while also accessible today. Very good overall, very god length. 91-93 point potential.

Red
2014 Château Branaire-Ducru France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Tasting, brief note. charming floral start. Dense and backward start through finish, but very long and powerful, so I'd be optimistic 2024 forward.
Red
2014 Château Gruaud Larose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Tasting, brief note. Dense black fruit and baking spice on nose and palate. Firm most of the way through, then softening on long finish. Cellarworthy, 91-92 point potential.

Red
2014 Château Lynch-Bages France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
