White - Sparkling
1996 Dom Pérignon Champagne Oenothèque France, Champagne
94 points
A fantastic showing. Richly fruited with bready, doughy, vanilla cream, and chalky accents, all conveyed with a sense of both power and finesse. Serious depth and intensity on the palate with a persistent bead, but so elegant with a bright acid spine keeping it incredibly fresh and lively.
White
2005 Domaine Weinbach Riesling Schlossberg Cuvée Ste. Catherine France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru

Liked this, though I was somewhat distracted with the Dom in front of me. It's got lots of bright orchard fruit, fresh floral accents, and a base of stony and flinty mineral notes, though there's also a slightly reductive, sulfury aspect to the nose that never really blows off with air. Quite light on its feet with nice acidity, drinking well now though still very youthful.

Red
1991 Domaine Heresztyn/Heresztyn-Mazzini Clos St. Denis France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru

Well, here's a rarity. A really nice showing - lots of savoury earthiness and a touch of rusticity beneath a core of red fruit that's still very fresh and lively, with a bright acid spine giving it lift. There's not a lot of apparent tannin here and the texture is incredibly silky, and it gets more fragrant and layered with air as floral and more savoury earthy/herbal notes emerge. Lovely.
Red
2002 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
95 points
A great showing. Soaring, perfumed aromatics with an array of bright floral notes, gentle earthiness, and a core of rich, sappy red fruit beneath. The flavours are still rather primary, but it's already a stunning wine with remarkable depth and aromatic complexity, a very silken, graceful palate presence, and impressive length to the flavours.
Red
1993 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
98 points
Astounding wine. This is a wow from the aromas alone. Such incredible depth here, with layers of red and dark fruit, earth, truffles, a faint (clean) leathery savouriness, and sweeter, brighter floral and spicy notes all come together into an amazing scent that just keeps getting more powerful with air. The palate is unreal - powerful and broad, yet so elegant and light on its feet, with each sip resonating for minutes. Flavour without weight.

Red
2007 Domaine du Clos de Tart Clos de Tart France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru
92 points
Good at first, but this got substantially better with air. It's a touch awkward on the palate initially with the acid sticking out on the back end, but comes together and feels much more harmonious with some time in the glass, while opening out aromatically to show more floral and herbal scents around its core of red fruit.
Red
2009 Domaine Alain Burguet Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
91 points
Decanted for a few hours, though this comes across incredibly primary and a touch ornery right now with lots of dense red and dark berried fruit tinged with understated earthy and herbal notes, but not a whole lot of complexity beyond. It's immensely ripe yet structured, but after the more mature Burgs this felt like drinking a barrel sample. Painfully young, though packed with potential.

White - Off-dry
1976 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
97 points
An absolutely incredible bottle of Riesling. There is nothing like mature Prüm. Haunting aromatics - just an incredibly beautiful fragrance with all sorts of floral and orchard fruit scents, honey, and more mature smoky, earthy, and faintly leafy/herbal elements coming together. I could have sat and smelled this for a long time, except that the palate is astounding. Moderately sweet at this point, still incredibly fresh and persistent on the palate with bright acidity beneath the sweetness, yet so light and airy. Stunning, to say the least.

White - Off-dry
1989 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Brand Vendange Tardive France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru
94 points
Not quite the knockout that my last bottle was, though it likely suffered a bit in contrast to the Prüm. Fully mature with lovely burnished, smoky aromas around a core of ripe stone fruit and faint herbal notes, showing only mild sweetness with the bright acidity giving it a nice sense of lightness and vibrancy on the palate.
