Introduction

Sparse notes for most of the wines and all based on my own personal perceptions without attributing too much importance to the scientific analysis.

Flight 1 - Reds (46 notes)

Red
2015 Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
91 points
Great energetic expressive nose of red berries and red currants. Soft with refreshing acidity. Very good balance and almost drinkable now but give it another 4-5 years to improve more. Best Village wine in show? 90-92p
Red
2015 Domaine Jean Grivot Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

So pure. Nose is uplifting with lovely fine raspberry and red fruit. Complex and fine. Impeccable balance and just delicious in the mouth. Will need time though. 95-96p
Red
2015 Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
93 points
Very generous aromatic nose with lovely fruit and spices. Very fine balance and a fantastic mouthfeel with pure dark fruit. Prefer this to the Beaux Monts. 93-94p
Red
2015 Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Red

92 points
Dense red fruit and spicy blackberry. Mouthwatering acidity, pure fruit and elegance. Relatively low tannin. On the "feminine" side of winemaking. Lovely!
92-93p
Red
2015 Domaine Francois Lamarche La Grande Rue France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Grande Rue Grand Cru
93 points
Elegant with fantastic pure fruit. High tannin and acidity and slightly earthy. Needs a lot of time. Should turn out fantastic in the end. Recently tasted the 2006 which had turned out brilliant. 93-94p
Red
2015 Domaine Francois Lamarche Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
91 points

Fantastic dense, complex fruit with dark raspberries. High acidity and tannin to balance the fruit. Deep powerful finish. Will be gorgeous with 10-15 years of age. 94-96p
Red
2015 Domaine Francois Lamarche Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
92 points
Fine lovely fruit towards the darker spectrum. Rather lean and earthy with elegant sleek fruit. Had expected more depth from this site. 91-93p
Red
2015 Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
91 points
Fantastic fruit and licorice aromas. Nice mouth feel with structure and depth and a long finish. Can't believe this is a Villages wine. 91-92p
Red
2015 Sylvain Cathiard Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
92 points
More power, deeper and denser fruit nose with rose petal hints to add on. Very nice balance even though on the more powerful, more concentrated style. Could even drink now. 92-93p
Red
2015 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod / Barthod-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
93 points
Very fine expressive fruit towards dark berries. Fantastic elegant balance and not at all the sharp acidity I remember from the 2014's .Slight earth notes and a long finish. Very happy to have got hold of this one.
Red
2015 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod / Barthod-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
91 points
Again a beautiful villages wine! Seductive fruit, lovely balance and lightness. Her best villages I have ever tasted over the last 4-5 years as en primeur. As a general remark, not just for Barthod wines, the difference between the Villages wines and the single vineyard wines is a lot smaller than anything I have tasted. 90-92p
Red
2015 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod / Barthod-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Véroilles France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
91 points
Very nice nose with pure fruit. More astringent than the Baudes. Seemed much more closed and for me, very hard to judge even though I presume it will develop nicely with time. Maybe a lot of time required? 90-94 range?
Red
2015 Faiveley Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
91 points
Good fruit, coulis de framboise, spicey. Balanced but on the soft side with relatively low tannin, high acidity to support. Sappy with very nice finish.
Red
2015 Camille Giroud Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
92 points
Dense, dark, spicy with a deep blackish fruit. Powerful and opulent, on the verge of overwhelming. Very long excellent finish. 91-93p.
Red
2015 Domaine Dujac Chambolle-Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
89 points
Nice aromas of pure fruit. On the palate a bit earthy mid. Very good balance and finish. 89-90p
Red
2015 Comte Armand Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
92 points
Primary fruit of raspberries, fantastic nose, slight oak. Bright acidity, sappy fruit, raspberry, sloe. Relatively low on tannin but not to say it's without structure. 91-93p
Red
2015 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
93 points
Excellent wine with complexity but not with the same distinct terroir as I remember from previous vintages. Sweet and ripe with balance and finesse but maybe a bit less deep and more elegant than 2013 and 2014 at this early stage. 92-94p
Red
2015 Domaine Alain Burguet Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
92 points
Fantastic expressive dark berries and petrol nose. Very good balance and depth but a lot of extraction and power. A lot of weight but less of finesse. A great wine if you like the style. 91-94p
Red
2015 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Latricières-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
92 points
Light almost shy nose with elegance. High acidity, elegant and lightweight, with pure red fruit. This is one of the better wines today but a difficult step after the dense, powerful Clos de Beze from Burguets. 91-94p
Red
2015 Domaine des Lambrays Morey St. Denis France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
90 points
Flowery, perfumed fruit with hints of roses. Lovely balance and inviting fruit. Light and easy drinking. Again another solid showing from a Villages wine. 90-91p
Red
2015 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Dark cherries and dark red raspberry nose. Slight earthy notes on the palate. Perfect balance, nothing stands out. Weight and power but with elegance. Top class. 93-96p

Red
2015 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Fresh red red fruit, raspberry nose but earthy and very lean once in the mouth. Not my cup of tea. 88-90p
Red

Red
2015 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

2015 Domaine Castagnier Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Dense with dark berry concentrated style. More to the flamboyant side and a complete opposite of Etienne Grivot's CdV. Not bad at all but a very different CdV. 90-92p
Red
2015 Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Cinq Terroirs France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

High acidity that pokes out a bit. Good fruit so just needs time? Sparse notes
Red
2015 Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
91 points
Very closed nose, earthy but with very nice fruit underneath the tannin and high acidity. Suprised to see how much more accessible and seductive the 2014 was at this early stage. Having bought this in the past I had high expectations that were not quite fulfilled. In all fairness it's maybe more a question of misguided expectations? Equally my notes don't have much resemblance with the pro reviews so I'm wondering if this could be an off bottle? 91-92p

Flight 2 - Whites (17 notes)

White
2015 Domaine Rollin Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
92 points
Good fruit, refreshing acidity. A rounder, more powerful full boded type of wine with a lot of tropical fruit and atypical from other C-Charlemagnes. 91-93p
White
2015 Domaine Patrick Javillier Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
93 points
Flowery, fruity and zesty nose. Nice mouth feel with elegance and fine balance. New oak comes through at this stage but overall this is a very fine C-Ch also this year. One of my favorites and very consistenly so from previous en primeurs, 92-94p
White
2015 Domaine du Chateau de Meursault Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
Delicate nose with nice fruit and a light oak scent. Very good balance and fruit. Tried a second time and the acidity is relatively low so maybe an early drinking one. A great wine, highly recommended. Will try and find some of this. 92-93p
White
2015 Domaine de Montille Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Mineral, green apples and a very high acidity. Might be good in the long run but is there enough fruit to balance the high acidity? Very appealing nonetheless but needs time to come round. 91-94 range.
White
2015 Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
90 points
Fresh with nice minerality. Finely balanced with relatively low acidity, Should be an early drinking wine. 89-90p
White
2015 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
91 points
Another step up in quality but rather similar to Boudriotte in style but with more minerality. Good fruit and acidity, Very well balanced with a long finish. A very fine wine but maybe not as good as some previous vintages, has a bit less of that zing and minerality it usually has in store like for 2014 and 2010 (judging from my old notes) 90-91p. I can see the critics are ranking this higher than I did which is probably fair. Needs time in the bottle.
White
2015 Domaine du Chateau de Meursault Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes-Dessus France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Fruity nose with a touch of oak. In the mouth a nice mix of fruit and balanced levels of acidity. A very fine wine but not as good as in 2014.
