Game dinner with friends Champagne and Northern Rhône

Introduction
We chose two wines from each others cellers, by an ingenious voting system.
We knew most wines which were in the line-up, but not the order in which the wines were poured. Our sommellier Marco surprised us ;-)
There were two wines we did not know about: the "Reichsrat Von Buhl Riesling Sekt Brut" and the "L'Aventure Estate Cuvée" Both recognizable as somthing different.

Great to taste this again. Good freshness, focused, minerals, slightly oxidized impressions. A mouth full of good wine with good acidity. Very rich and full bodied Even some red fruits, nuts and a good length. 95+

Luxurious oak in the bouquet. Beautiful and elegant. Minerals and crisp citrus acidity, but also a bit creamy. Full bodied and still youthful. A pristine bottle again :-) 94+

Beautiful bouquet with even a slightly sweet note and minerals. On the palate not so very expressive, but there is good acidity, minerals and a pleasant slightly oxidized impression. Does it need a few more years?

Just some short notes; minerals in the bouquet. On the palate good acidity, pleasant oxidized style and some ok bitterness in the finish. Beautiful wine, but this bottle impressed a bit less compared to the previous ones.

In the (blind) Champagne line up this wine stood out because it was different. In the beautifully fresh bouquet lime and some impressions of honey (without being really sweet). On the palate tasty, focused, full bodied and also elegant. Beautiful sect.

Beautiful and crisp bouquet with good citrus and white fruits. Same on the palate. Focused, beautiful and still very youthful. 94+, but wait another 5+ years.

Just a few words. See also my previous note. Beautiful and clean bouquet with limestone minerals and fresh acidity. Same on the palate. A beautiful, full bodied, elegant and complex wine. No hurry; will still be nice in the early 2020’s.

This is something really exclusive and not comparable to anything else I tasted. The bouquet and the palate are very full bodied and tasty. A lot of minerals like flint stone and some smoky impressions. Also herbs and oak. Very expressive and extraordinary in a beautiful way. 96 – 97

In the bouquet beautiful red berry fruits and leather. On the palate beautiful red and juicy dark forest fruits. Good acidity and tannin which is ripe and soft but also a tiny bit drying. This is a truly great wine and in a lovely drinking stage. Why wait any longer? It is so smooth already.

Very dark purple color. In the bouquet dark forest fruits, cherries and leather. On the palate powerful and juicy berry fruits. A bit rustic. A mouth full of concentrated and compact wine with an enormous future. Good and juicy acidity and round tannin which can probably last for at least another 10 years. 95++ for now. 96 – 97+ around 2025 probably. Already a feast and very happy to have a few.

What a beautiful surprise after several disappointing bottles! This bottle has a beautiful and rustic bouquet with good dark forest fruits. On the palate juicy red and dark forest fruits, earthy flavors, red fruit acidity, a pleasant touch of sweetness, beautiful oak and round tannin. Overall a beautiful and juicy wine which appears to be still quite youthful. Will this be at its peak in the 2020’s? For this evening 92 – 93+

In the bouquet beautifully ripe red and dark forest fruits, sweet spices and licorice. On the palate a full bodied wine with juicy black forest fruits, a lot of sweetness and also good acidity. Lovely wine in its early drinking stage now.

In the bouquet leather, coffee and blood as well as dark forest fruits. On the palate fresh red and dark fruit acidity, elegance and an enormous length. Good acidity, some fine sweetness as well. Overall a powerful wine; very rich, youthful and powerful. Great length and elegance as well. Will continue to improve. 2030+!? 94 - 95++

The bouquet is a bit rustic with dark forest fruits, cherries, earth and autumn impressions. On the palate juicy red and dark berries, beautiful acidity and a great length. This wine is at its peak now, complex and very well balanced. A treat!

Beautiful and rustic bouquet with dark forest fruits. On the palate juicy dark forest fruits which is still very fresh and lively. Beautiful and elegant acidity and round tannin with still a pleasant bite. Overall a beautiful and elegant wine which is just entering its maturity stage. Great pleasure now and probably for the next 5 – 10+ years.
