White - Sparkling
N.V. Déhu Père & Fils Champagne Cuvée La Rue des Noyers Extra Brut France, Champagne
93 points
Aired in bottle for 1 hour already before tasting.
Appearance is cclear, deep intensity, gold colour. Persistent bubbles. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of autolytic yeast, brioche, smoky roasted almond, crushed rocks minerality, rich kumquat. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12%), medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of yeasty brioche, smoke, crushed rocks minerality, kumquat, rich citrus lemon.
Very good quality. Comes quite close to the Emmanuel Brochet Champagne Les Hauts Meuniers in terms of enjoyment factor, just short of the precision and clarity.
100% Pinot Meunier. Zero dosage. Vinified in locally sourced oak barrels without malolactic fermentation. Aged 3 years on lees in barrel. Very small production.
Can age, and also not a sin to drink and enjoy now.

2015 Frederic Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
90 points
Slow-oxed in bottle for 2 hours before tasting.
Appearance is clear, pale intensiy, brilliant purple colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of smoky toasted oak, sweet spices, dark red cherries, black cherries. Youthful.
On the plate, dry, high acidity, medium- tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of red cherries, black cherries, sweet spices, toast, licorice. Long finish.
Very good quality Village. From the non-premier cru area of Clos Prieur. Outperforms as a Village though. Forward and expressive with good length. Ripeness of the 2015 vintage shows.

2015 Frederic Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
92 points
Aired in decanter for 2 hours before tasting.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, purple colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of toast, violets, dark red cherries, black cherries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), firm grippy medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of orange peel, dark red cherries, black cherries, sweet spice, licorice, slight cola, mint. Long finish.
Very good quality. Rather well-balanced. Evidently built for at least 4-5 more years of ageing. Ripeness of the 2015 shows, though the terroir of the slightly cooler mesoclimate in Lavaux St. Jacques can be discerned.

2015 Frederic Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles-St.-Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
91 points
Aired in decanter for 2 hours before tasting.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, purple colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of smokey toasted oak, cola, licorice, sweet spice, black cherries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), smooth fine medium tannins, medium+ almost going onto full body with more air. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of concentrated black cherries, smoke, cola, licorice, sweet spices. Long finish.
Very good quality. Solid black fruited concentration here with sweetness almost New Worldy-like. Becomes more brash with air and the Lavaux is showing more balance for me at this point. Likely to improve with age and more integration. Ripeness of the 2015 vintage is obvious here.

2015 Frederic Esmonin Ruchottes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
93 points
Aired in decanter for about 2 hours before tasting.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, purple colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of violets, stony minerality, light toast oak, sweet spices, red cherries.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), fine medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of red cherries, raspberry, sweet spice, white and black pepper, stony minerality. Long finish.
Very good quality. Complex yet not heavy-weight like the Estournelles-St.-Jacques. Elegant and classic, with just the right touch of oak. Only an infant now. Give this another 5+ years.
