Introduction

Knightsbridge organized dinner with Peter Wasserman at one of Chicago's most exciting new restaurants. Great menu and an overall great evening.

Flight 1 (14 notes)

White
2012 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Chardonnay Clos de la Crochette France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Chardonnay
87 points
Ripe and lush with baked apple aromas and flavors, but somewhat short and simple. Very good for the very near-term, I didn't like this as much tonight vs when last tasted 2 years ago.
White
2013 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Chardonnay Clos de la Crochette France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Chardonnay
89 points
Apple, pear and some lemon peel with very good textures and length for its level and price. Very good now, I'd think it best to enjoy over the next two years.
White
2008 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
93 points
Very floral start with ripe apple and peach notes. Background clove and mint notes. Very powerful and long, this seems so forward and rich, but finishes with a real great burst of energy. Great now.
White
2012 Château des Quarts Pouilly-Fuissé Clos de Quarts France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé
90 points
Ripe apple with some tropical notes and floral background hints. Great concentration and length for its level. Continues to be a great value wine that should drink well for at least 5 more years.
White
2013 Château des Quarts Pouilly-Fuissé Clos de Quarts France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé
88 points
Similar to the 2012 vintage in the next glass with ripe apple, then some tropical hints, but overall less concentration, length or finesse. Very good for the next 5 years.
Red
2011 Benjamin Leroux Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Cave des Ducs France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Red cherry with savory spice and floral hints. Leaner style of the vintage with moderate weight and length. Good now, probably best over the next 5-8 years.
Red
2013 Benjamin Leroux Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Cave des Ducs France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
89 points
Floral and spice start with red cherry and berry aromas. Moderate weight and length, but overall good balance and textures. I'd think this will pick up more weight over the next year or two, and best for the mid-term, 2018-2028.
Red
2011 Domaine Bruno Clair Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos du Fonteny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
90 points
Slightly more black vs red fruit with an elegant style, good balance and textures. Not a weighty wine for long-term cellaring, but very good now. I preferred this over the Petite Chapelle in the next glass, but others disagreed.
Red
2011 Domaine Bruno Clair Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
89 points
Bigger fruit vs Fontenys in the next glass, with both black and red cherry. Better concentration, but less perfect balance and some rugged, structured character on finish. Cellar a few more years.
Red
2000 Domaine Bruno Clair Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
91 points
All black cherry, nicely mature on nose and palate with hearty Boeuf Bourgignon spice and plenty of slowly cooked mushroom. Moderate weight and length, with nearly perfect balance. Very good now through 2025 or so.

2012 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
In 12/13/14 vertical. From magnum. All red fruit throughout with very good concentration, with a long and elegant finish. Slightly more firm and less forward vs when last tasted a few months ago. I think this the best of the vertical for the medium-term. 89 points for today, 90 for a few years in the future.

In 12/13/14 vertical. Red cherry and berry aromas and flavors with moderate weight, excellent textures. Entering its peak drinking window, this was the most pleasurable for today, even if not for the longer-term.

2014 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
In 12/13/14 vertical, this was oddly simple tonight. Good and forward bright red fruit, but seemingly less concentration than I recall from before. Perhaps this is entering an early quiet phase.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1997 Château de Suronde Quarts de Chaume France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Quarts de Chaume
Tried from 2 different bottles tonight, with very different results. One showed fig, baked apple and caramel hints without being overly sweet. Moderate length and weight. Very good now. Other bottle seemed very off, possibly corked we wondered, but showing VA according to Peter.
